Managing My Blogroll

25 May 2008 01:08 pm

And now for a post that has nothing to do with Obama. I'm gonna adjust my blogroll in the next couple days--mostly, I'm gonna add some folks (Balloon Juice, Kathy G, Amptoons, Jed Report...). FIrst, taking my que from Balloon Juice, I wonder if you guys have any reccommendations for blogs I should be reading, that I'm not. Also, what are the online ethics of pruning your blogroll? I mean, I read--and when lucky, write for--Slate, but they don't need any help from me. I'm more concerned about blogs that I don't read much anymore. Any thoughts?

Well the only new blog that I don't see talked about enough around but that I recently added to my blogroll and adore is yours LOL

Other than that I think the other ideas I have are all sites you are familiar with like Poblano's blog (fivethirtyeight) and so on.

I am very fond of "angry asian man" though in the spirit of blogs aimed at a discussion about race but this one is from the perspective of the Asian-American community.

We've just been tidying ours up, so:

My assumption is that blogrolls are, and should be, about your preferences. That said, blogs that you know about, but that don't get a lot of traffic, would probably very much appreciate being on your blogroll, so if you like them, I'd leave them up even if you don't actually read them much anymore. I don't think there's any obligation to list anyone, though; it's more about courtesy and wanting to give good people a hand.

For the record, "Amptoons" is probably "Alas, A Blog".

Rootless Cosmopolitan (tonykaron.com) is great on foreign policy/Middle East issues.

For truly underappreciated blogs, my nominee is 13th Floor, Governing magazine's blog. Full of bizarro stories of the sort that would be a lot more likely to come to the attention of, oh, a magazine devoted to serving the needs of state and municipal officials than to you or I.

This is your blog, If I follow a link I want to be pointed to the ones your reading or recommend. If your not reading it don't point me that way.

Ta-Nehisi,
Check my blog out when you have a chance,

I'm also a new reader. I deleted Instapundit from by bookmarks and found a couple people who I actually enjoy reading.

Check out http://www.globalcompassion.com (sets of people and culture photos from around the world featuring one outstanding photographer each week)

Check out Al Giordano's The Field - about the best reporting on primaries and politics in general. Also, Tiny Revolution and Lawyers, Guns and Money. Recently, I've been enjoying tis one, too: South Jerusalem: Gershom Gorenberg and Haim Watzman.
Old favorite, still one of the best political commentary on the net: Digby's Hullaballo.

I'll take a link if I can get one!! I blog for my own amusement about local (Capitol Hill in DC) issues; mostly about boozing, dealing with my kid, and other silliness; but I have been blogging about getting navigating the maze of DC Public Schools which some other folks might like to read about.

it should be blogs you are feeling that are not super well known.
You have HuffPo on there, and I suspect every single person who reads this goes there, its one of the most popular sites in the net period. In other words, it doesn't belong. If I may make a few suggestions of blogs I know you will appreciate:

http://field-negro.blogspot.com/
a black lawyer from philly, who like you, blogs on various aspects of black life, politics, etc.

http://www.racismreview.com/blog/
A blog started by the former president of the American Sociological Association. Racism Review is intended to provide a credible and reliable source of information for... [those] who are seeking solid evidence-based research and analysis of “race,” racism, ethnicity, and immigration issues, especially as they undergird and shape U.S. society within a global setting.

you've gotta love that.

Don't delete the obvious blogs... you never know who may stumble upon your site from a random Google search and be opened up to a whole new world of lefty thinking!

I'm a fan of the Black Snob - she's funny, and does some pretty interesting writing.

I read Altercation daily, so I think that would be a good addition to your blogroll.

But I actually came over here today to see if you were up on the news that Politico.com just broke: the excerpts from former Press Secretary Scott McClellan's new book - What Happened.

Apparently, what happened is the American people got rolled. We all knew that was true, but to have yet another insider - and this one the voice of the President - say, "yeah, that's what happened" really spun me up to post on my blog. Now I am checking for reactions around the web.

Hey, I've I been blogging for a few months now, usually from a progressive viewpoint, but mainly through a critical lens that happens to criticize both left and right wing politics. I think you may find some of the ideas interesting.

I appreciate your writing and ideas. It's given me pause for thought many times. Keep up the good work.
