Things I don't understand

06 Jun 2008 05:08 pm

Who are these two dudes? Cam'Ron and Young Buck? WTF?

UPDATE: Also, I just don't care much for these arguments. This is reminiscent of the "Why are there no black people on Friends and Sienfeld debate?" If Negroes don't like being left out, they need to make their own films and television. Furthermore, I don't need to see a black person in every film/TV show I watch. I care about this mainly as a labor issue--I love Gabrielle Union and I think she should get more work. But we need to recognize that there aren't even enough roles for white women in Hollywood. If we don't like it, Negroes need to get some cash together and change. Otherwise stop complaining. Jesus, don't talk me to death. Get out there and do something.

Free, easy publicity for Spike's new movie. Keep movin, nothin to see here.

To be fair, Spike IS making a movie about the very subject he's complaining about. It's one thing to complain and do nothing, but it's not like he's just sitting on the couch.

Yeah, as dnA said, Spike is making a movie on it. This is a good way to get people (like me) interested.

Besides, Ta-Nehisi, it's not about being in every film, but what about being in ANY?

I generally agree with your position. I think black people need to do our own thing and stop trying to be apart of white folks things in many respects.

but two things pop out.
1. In this case, this is a movie about a historical event. This isn't like "yo clint why it aint no black people in Unforgiven!?" This really happened and black people were really there and what he is doing in essence is erasing them from history, because yes many Americans get their history from pop culture, (a seperate troubling aspect of this issue).

2. Spike really gets busy as far as the doing your own thing is concerned. The movies he makes, his film company, the way he straight tookover to become the director for Malcolm X; the man is a virtual army of black power in hollywood. You can't pin this rap on him, on others yes, but not on Spike.

Lets toss a trash can through Clint's Pizzeria!!!

Gabrielle Union? Really? I cant name one flick she was ever dope in. Give me Kerry Washington or Joy Bryant ANY day
