Quote of the day...

Although there are several great ones in that "black spokesperson" thread, I give it up to Susan Brooks Thistlewaite:

The New York Times would have us believe, however, that Senator Obama should have fixed this by now. “Obama isn’t closing the divide on race”, reads the accusing headline. Right after turning water into wine at the next reception he attends, Senator Obama will get right on eliminating 250 years or more of racial disparities

When is John McCain going to get around to fixing the "age-ism" thing?

What was most interesting about that Gallup poll cited is how relatively close folks were in their perceptions/expectations of Obama's impact. Many of the results were within statistical error and there weren't any huge disparities. "Gaps" perhaps in some responses, but no "chasms." Also, ridiculous as the notion of a singular "spokesman for black people" is in this day and age, I was actually surprised at how far ahead Obama was of the rest of the "pack." Most ludicrous - dispiriting, really - was how close Bill and Hillary Clinton were to Jesse and Al. That should scare them more than Obama being ahead in the mind of the black public by well over 20 points.

The only really glaring number to me in that whole poll was the awful performance by McCain among black people. Who's the racially divisive candidate again?

Water into wine? He did that already, in 2000 I think.
Did I mention what he did with a few fish and loaves of bread at the anti-war rally in Daley Plaza?
He walked on Lake Michigan ... okay, it was frozen.
However, his biggest miracle so far was to have the White Sox win the World Series. Amazing!
