'Nigger' is so old-school. I prefer the readily accepted 'those people'.
I admit that the first thing I do when someone tells me not to utter the word is find an excuse to use it. But I would never use it and mean it--I've heard the rationale that "nigger" is the equivalent to "white trash," but if that's what you mean just say "trailer trash" (or "sociopath"), apologize to any of your friends who *do* happen to live in prefabricated housing, and get on with your life.
The Jewish thing is more delicate. I'm a gentile, and I've heard Heeb and Yid from non-Jews; it didn't much bother me too much. Just someone trying to get under my skin. But the word "kike" is still quite shocking to me, and "jew" as a verb is almost as bad--just wouldn't say those things. Unless someone told me that I really, really wasn't allowed to, and then I'd probably find an excuse to do it--like with the nigger thing.
But then, I'm bad.
I mean, bad, bad.
How about "people who tan really easily"? "People whose sunblock budget is more modest than mine"? Or: "people who are probably much better at sports than I am, without being any less bright"? It might be "people with an engineering bent," too. (I watched a lot of Mission: Impossible as a child.)
