The Traveling Man

27 Jul 2008 10:13 pm

Headed out out of ATL into Chi-town tomorrow guys, to watch a Michelle Obama speech. Posting will be light or nonexistent. Some things are about to change over this way. I'll have an announcement early this week.

You taking the Yglesias spot at The Atlantic? Good man.

Dang, I was about to post the exact same thing ;-) I hope it's true. I'd love to see you at the Atlantic site. Would be a smart move on the magazine's part.

You guys are thinking too small!

Ta is going to announce that he has decided to accept Barack's offer to be VP.

Or else maybe he will annuounce that he's decided to take up Brad Delong's offer and get married.

That would be a great look, indeed, if Ta was making that sort of power move. To the Atlantic, I mean. But would he really want to live that close to PG County again?

I also assume Coates is taking Yglesias's spot at the Atlantic.

Still, much as I like Coates, it'd be nice if the Atlantic would host someone half as firmly committed to a liberal agenda as Douthat, McMegan, and Goldberg are committed to their Conservative, Libertarian, and Apocalyptic agendas, respectively. Sullivan is more complicated, because he is more motivated by narcissism than by any coherent political agenda, but he sure ain't no liberal.

Coates offers great insights, but fighting the liberal corner isn't his thing. I hope someone else is being recruited to fill that role, so we have no false expectations and can Let Coates Be Coates.
