Elitism Bait

31 Aug 2008 10:50 am

The entire Sarah Palin pick comes down to one thing--the hope that George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, or (God forbid) Will.I.Am. will make a joke about moose-burgers. At that point, the McCain campaign will cut an ad which says They're laughing at you. Vote for McCain and you can show the world. You can show them all! Of course said ad will never appear on television but will be screened only for the media--who will then do their job and turn the cable news into giant echo chamber in which the "Real Americans" yell  They're all gonna laugh at you! They're all gonna laugh at you! Welcome to Victimology 101--the White Working Class Edition. Oh well. I personally prefer this ad. More please.

I'm not laughing at Sarah Palin, I'm laughing at John McCain. Alas, the MSM will do its thing and suck the nuance right out of that distinction.

I love the ad, too. When Obama and Biden first stood together, I realized, "Now, scared white voters won't see Obama as a Muslim Terrorist. They'll see him as Joe Biden's black friend."

if the R team had anybody better, he would have been the candidate for president. they didn't, so forced to go with an outsider.

I'm thinking about this in NBA terms; the Republicans are punting the season for a draft pick.

Deleted. Bring us more than name-calling.

Mr. Coates:

I think you're right.

This editorial in the NYTimes pretty clearly reveals that the Republicans are taking a "grassroots Republican" versus Washington Republican approach.

They have, in other words, accepted Obama's narrative about change.

He who controls the narrative controls the campaign.

Is it ok if we attack her for being a creationist fundamentalist nutjob? Will the corn-fed People of the Heartland still feel like victims?

You're telling me that JimBob in Indiana and Western PA, is going to be insulted by a mooseburger joke?

Where are there moose in this country outside of Alaska?

Come on.

Well, can I call her James.Dobson.In.A.Dress?

Will they be insulted by that?

Re: Where are there moose in this country outside of Alaska?

The UP of Michigan. Minnestota. Maine. Maybe New Hampshire and Vermont? The Adirondacks?

Couldn't agree more. The Republicans are great at "you think your better than me" politics.

How about the fact that she left her hometown 20 million dollars in debt.

Oh, I bet more Americans have eaten arugula than moose. Elitism, indeed.

There are moose in Wyoming and Montana--probably nearby states too.

I would be offended by jokes about moose burgers but only because I lived on 5 moose steaks a day for a whole winter in the NWT.

Occasionally a moose nose or a moose tongue for desert. Uggg.

A very strong-tasting sweetish meat.

Inherently offensive.
