More problems for Obama--he's winning white workers

04 Aug 2008 10:30 am

Heh, Obama is beating John McCain by ten points among white working class workers. You can bet if the numbers were reversed we'd see a big blaring headline that says "Obama Can't Win Working Class Whites." The bias toward narrative in campaign coverage is sort of revolting.

Word.

BTW, welcome to the Atlantic.

Didn't you hear? Barack Obama is Pro-Proper Tire Inflation! That's Not Change We Can Believe In! (Trembling, awkward grin, followed by applause)

I'm not sure why this surprises anyone at all; historically, Democrats have done pretty well among white-working class voters. I don't expect Obama to be any different.

Of course the "reverse" as others have pointed out would be, "Poll Shows McCain Has Problems with Working Whites", a headline we'll never see in our lifetimes.

Didn't you know, the news is simply a way for the pundits of the world to reinforce their previously held positions? They wouldn't let anything silly like actual events or results cloud up their shiny narratives.

In fact leo, if I ever saw the headline "Poll Shows McCain has Problems with Working Whites," I would conclude that the election doesn't even matter any more, since the Apocalypse has come.

Welcome to The Atlantic. Hope you'll keep the comments on.
