Don't underestimate her. Give her plenty of credit, and let her hang herself with enough rope. At least if she doesn't, you're then playing on equal footing, rather than pouting about how she fooled everyone. One good thing about Obama's campaign is that they specialize in the deft touch. I am worried about Biden in a debate with her, but these guys know how to tear someone down and have the media only catch on to it weeks later--think about their high/low strategy of hitting McCain with "smart-ads" that neither play nationally nor are screened for media.
This is a situation that calls for the Dagger of Venom, not the Horn of Blasting. Word up. We talking to you, Goldfarb. Smacking fire at your ass, Tiamat-style. Know what I'm saying, kid? Somehow, I think you do.

The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood
Biden was never one of the people accused of berating Clinton in the debates. I don't know why anyone is worried.
I am truly honored that my words are included in a post poking fun at Goldfarb, whose blog I still suspect is actually a satire.
The Obama/Biden campaigns should go tough on Palin, but not too tough at first. They need to undermine all that McCain want to build. I hear that Romney, Pawletty and the other repubs were not that happy about the VP slot for Palin, maybe there is a way for Obama to gain the moderates republicans and the Foreign Policies realist n the republican party.
I agree completely with Deborah. And, judging from the walkback of the first statement from the campaign to the more nuanced statement from Obama himself, there is every intention of allowing her to sink or swim of her own accord.
Of course, I fully expect Mr. Biden to toss her a few heavy stones along the way, just in case - Smiling the whole time.
I'm just glad I don't have to fly to Anchorage anytime soon! Every plane for the next month will be crammed with reporters and Democratic operatives looking under every rock in that godforsaken town she "ran."

You've wandered into the wrong bar.

And you've followed him.
Palin has enough scandals and a bad enough record as mayor of a small town, plus obvious inexperience, that all Democrats need to do is stay out of her way and let her stumble and flub to disaster. Just smile compassionately and talk about the pressure placed on young trainees too soon.

I may find Fred offensive--but he isn't blinding. I know him when I see him. Still, nice try.
Ta-Nehisi Coates realized, with mounting horror, that the Deletion meme had escaped the cage....
I do what I can. Hate to see a party ruined by a guy spoiling for a street-fight.
I take it that you used the Wand of Erasing, coupled with the Foghorn of Forgetfulness?
The early polls seem to suggest that Palin has flopped with independents, and is widely seen as conservative to very conservative. No liberal women for you, John McCain! Mind you, I am looking forward to her big-time appearances on stage, because they are bound to be seriously embarrassing. Poor old Sergeant Schmidt - first he had one wild maverick to cage, now he has to teach the basics to a small-town mayor who thinks that a trip to Montana is a visit to foreign parts. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Seeing your links to the Dagger of Venom and Horn of Blasting led me to this realization:
John McCain drew her from the Deck of Many Things and lost 10K XP as well.
I can think of no better explanation.
I agree with this approach on the experience. Use it as a shield against McCain attacks on experience but don't use it as a shield.
They do need to undermine this reformer narrative. Point out that she favored the bridge to nowhere unlike what she said. Point that she hasn't called for Stevens to resign. Ask her if she supports the democrats against Young and Stevens.
Ta-Nehisi, you've been edging your way up there for a while now. But with the final paragraph of this post, you have just officially become my favorite blogger of all time.
Chapeau!
My thought is to kill her with kindness: a great pick for 2012 or 2016, and to McCain's credit if he picked her to shape the Republican party of the next 20 years.
The problem, of course, seems to be McCain's judgment, which seems to be impaired by youthful indiscretion as much as age:
The Vpilf youtube is creepy.

She's poison, son. A "Dagger of Venom" would just cut her and make her angry. I think we need a two-pronged attack to take care of her: web her down with "John McCain will die soon" and then burn her to ashes with some balefire-Harriet Miers incompetence references.
Thursday was Obama's last day as the great shiny object of the year. That has good and bad aspects. The bad is that, for a while at least, he can no longer assume he'll get automatic media buzz (until he wins). The good is that the reaction to that is gone too--"celebrity" attacks no longer work and he gets automatic +3 gravitas, as if he'd suddenly gone gray around the temples.
So he has to exploit that. Go heavy on substance, keep the focus on McCain as Bush III, but keep his own face on the screen delivering the attacks. It occurs to me that unadorned excerpts from his Thursday speech would actually work great as TV ads.
Please can someone smack fire out of Douthat's comment that he is rooting for Palin more than ever. Will someone explain this is for the Vice Presidency of the United States, not "Dancing with the stars" or "Let's make a deal". I am just saying Chris Rock's Pick of Bernie Mack as vp was a better choice at least Bernie's Character was a Bail Bondsman LOL..............
If the Clintons(whom I think should be doing the shiving to get off the lowest level of Hell) do the attack is it still the dagger of venom?
