WTF is John McCain talking about?

13 Aug 2008 08:52 pm

Really? I don't like tracking blunders. I don't think it says much to have a couple slips of the tongue, but come on dude, this is getting crazy.

I think he meant to say 'nations don't invade nations that have a financial stake in my campaign.'

The list of blunders, uhhms, ahhs, mis-statements, have been so numerous, I can't actually believe this guy is one election away from being POTUS.

But then, thought the same thing - and still shake my head - about George Bush being President.

Sometimes all you can say is, "WTF?"

Only to make it worse than it is...I've been watching the MSN all night and not once was this picked up on.

I'm not even going to get into the whole Obama was presumptuous for giving a speech in Germany but McCain is not right now.

Does it ever feel like this is rigged?

It's time for the news media, especially cable tv, to wake up and do its job!

John McCain is a mentally unbalanced, war-mongering neanderthal.

The news media is working overtime and pulling out all the stops to cover up and airbrush McCain's breathtaking incompetence.

A nailbiting, competitive race is great for tv ratings and ad revenue. If the media simply let everyone see how DUMB McCain truly is, his poll ratings would fall thru the floor in a nanosecond. There would be no suspense and cable tv ratings would take a nosedive.

"Does it ever feel like this is rigged?"

Yes. Yes, is most fucking definitely does feel rigged sometimes. The press spend damn near two weeks snickering while they called Obama uppity in a dozen different ways, yet here's McCain giving voice to policy positions in the middle of a full blown international situation drowning out the actual President of the United States, and NOBODY'S SAYING A WORD! He's not just giving his view about the current Georgian situation. He's articulating policy. Listen to what he's saying. He's talking about whether we should use military force or not, and why. As a Presidential candidate, his voice has resonance on an international level. Yet, as a Presidential candidate, he's only muddying the water and contributing to the mixed signals being sent to the players of this conflict. This is inexcusable, and again, NOBODY HAS CALLED HIM ON THIS!

Yes, it's starting to feel slightly friggen rigged to me.

Well, Ta-Nehisi, to be fair to our illustrious Senator McBush, there is absolutely no comparison between our presence in Iraq and Russia invading Georgia. As everybody knows we did not invade Iraq - we LIBERATED them.

Right?

I think the press pay too much attention to blunders. It's August and few people are listening. If blunders mattered, George Bush would be an ex-governor of Texas. This year might be different. The legacy of Katrina made an incompetence meme stick to Republicans. I think Obama should exploit that angle rather than the "in the pocket of big oil" angle he's been using in recent ads. We don't mind if our elected officals are on the take, but we do mind if they can't do their job.

Seems about right. In his world (republican) double talk and deception has brought success, just look at the twice elected GWB. He once took consistent principled positions and when faced with a weaker hand picked candidate in 2000 they treated him like dirt and won. He simply has seen the light and is acting accordingly.

Karl, helps that the McCain campaign is now being run by Rove folks.

MikeCee, Keith Olbermann on Countdown picked up on it and also noted the connection between McCain's campaign and Georgia through his policy advisor/Georgia lobbyist.

Any opinions on Obama's Harley radio ad?

Is this an effective fight back? Is it something that Rove would do?

While the remark is obviously inaccurate, if Obama supporters think there is electoral advantage to be had in drawing analogies between invading a nation which is governed in the manner Iraq was governed by the Baathists, and one which is governed in the manner that Georgia is today, and thus wish to press the issue regarding the inaccuracy of McCain's remark, they are likely mistaken. Nobody with an ounce of sense gives a damn about the sovereignity of a nation governed in the manner that Iraq was under the Baathists, and no, that is not to say that invasion is always, or even often, the reasonable response to such a nation.

So how often has McCain not blundered?

Right JT, I saw Olbermann cover it and all past blunders with a fury but he is the Democratic equivalent to Fox's Hannity or O'Reily. Not exactly MSM. None of the other MSNBC shows, CNN or evening news ran it or any other past blunder...no one is but Olberman is hitting the former lobby issue either. Time Mag's the Page has McCain winning the week with the Russia/Georgia issue being a big part of why.

Greetings!

Obama could have a field day and point out how mentally deficient his opponent is...instead...he has spent far too much time kissing as much behind as he can among the white electorate....

I am tired of seeing such a wimpy brotha going overboard to be approved of by white people...

Is it worth it? Really? I realize this is the most powerful position in the world but surrendering your backbone and your identity as a black man just to have that role....hmmmm...

Okay...but your post is about McCain....we all know he's senile...what more can we discuss?

(smiles)
Lisa

the puzzled one

For people with a zen bent, letting McCain be McCain and not pounding him on specific sayings may be its own rewards. Given a comfort zone, the guy will keep speaking, and the Big One will happen, hopefully close to October. The Big One would be a remark of such egregious wrongness that even people in Oklahoma will have to take notice.

"Is it worth it? Really? I realize this is the most powerful position in the world but surrendering your backbone and your identity as a black man just to have that role....hmmmm..."

Well, for starters, I hardly think Obama is "surrendering his backbone." And to answer your question...yes, it is most definitely worth it. Obama has already come this far. What are the other options? To have this 'senile' man in office? I think you're way off on all counts.

Lisa, I sometimes wish Obama would get old school and open up the can on McCain, there sure is plenty of ammo to do it every day and never say the same thing twice.

But for my kids and for why this election is really important I am happy he isn't. The two olympic ads are great examples that even my 10 yr olds picked up on. One negative and not really about anything important and one that was inspiring and messaged a vision for the future.

Wow. Nice find. That's great.

As for Obama going on the attack, he's got time yet. The election is still months away. Right now, McCain is spending his ammunition, stretching his forces thin (appropriately analogous to what the Iraq War has done to American military capabilities), while Barack is holding his own and letting him dig his hole deeper. The offensive will come, but as long as the attacks aren't hurting Obama too much, it's better for McCain to exhaust himself and continue to provide great ammunition like this.

"Does it ever feel like this is rigged?"

The whole election is rigged. It's as genuine as a professional wrestling match. Obama's purpose is to smile, wave, say things people want to hear...

...and politely and promptly concede when the "election" is blatantly rigged for McCain.

To help grease the skids so to speak the hamfisted retards running the show will surely crap out another "Osama bin Laden" tape days before the "election" (unsure if they will get the beard color right this time) where he's certain to say "Vote for Barack Obama! He's the only hope to save your country!" so McCain and the PTA mom can say "See?? Obama is endorsed by Osama bin Laden!!". The whole thing is about as predictable as an episode of Three's Company.
