Some may be tempted to see this as the event that will lose us the election. But I have a different take--Barack Obama isn't black, he isn't even biracial. Dig it--Malcolm's grandfather was white. Barack's mother was was white. So Barack isn't really half-black--he's about a third, tops. That has to be worth a few points in the polls, no? I think this news will swing Montana and Georgia.

Malcolm had a great relationship with a fairly Obama-like politician, Adam Clayton Powell. I'm sure he would have recognized where Barry O. fell short of his hard-charging, leftist progressive values and aspirations (as does Malcolm's friend Nat Henthoff who is only reluctantly supporting Obama) but the nationalism and respect for Barry's style and thoughtfulness and intelligence, and ability to avoid any overt "selling out" would probably have won over his philosophical / political reservations.
Remember, at the end of his life Malcolm was tired of the Manichean NOI dogma of Black Gods and White and Black Devils, and was trying to forge relationships between the various factions of the civil rights movement and his own fledgling OAAU.
If Malcolm X really is his father, then we can stop worrying about finding that birth certificate. Obama's from Detroit and that's that, right?

I recognize the relationship between Malcolm X and Powell however, aside from the personal respect, I believe the political linkage was that Powell was in practically if not rhetorically a Black Nationalist. Though Obama has a progressive vision he is not a Black Nationalist.
