Of course, just like my "Obama Bumaye" idea, it would only have skeered the shit outta my white brethren. :)

Malcolm had a great relationship with a fairly Obama-like politician, Adam Clayton Powell. I'm sure he would have recognized where Barry O. fell short of his hard-charging, leftist progressive values and aspirations (as does Malcolm's friend Nat Henthoff who is only reluctantly supporting Obama) but the nationalism and respect for Barry's style and thoughtfulness and intelligence, and ability to avoid any overt "selling out" would probably have won over his philosophical / political reservations.

Remember, at the end of his life Malcolm was tired of the Manichean NOI dogma of Black Gods and White and Black Devils, and was trying to forge relationships between the various factions of the civil rights movement and his own fledgling OAAU.

No wonder McCain pulled out of Michigan - that's Obama's home turf.

But what would have been even more damaging is if they find out Obama is one of Elijah Muhammad's grandchildren. We can't let that secret get out.

It has been years since I read Malcolm X's book, but I would think that Obama is far to moderate and accomodating for Malcolm's tastes.

Also, given what Malcolm X said in the aftermath of the JFK assassination, a cautious and careful politician like Obama would probably steer clear of such an endorsement.

I recognize the relationship between Malcolm X and Powell however, aside from the personal respect, I believe the political linkage was that Powell was in practically if not rhetorically a Black Nationalist. Though Obama has a progressive vision he is not a Black Nationalist.
