Numerous fools have written to question my knowledge of snakes. Fools. Normally, I have no problem with correction but you guys clearly missed out on one of the great markers of a great era--80s professional wrestling, The cobra clutch is a wrestling move. See below. And save your know-it-all-ness for my grammar. Like I said before. Fools. How dare you question the repertoire?

The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood
So what you're saying is that Sgt. Slaughter is responsible for the stupid name, not you?
People seriously hadn't heard of the Cobra Clutch? What are they teaching in schools these days?
It's 2008. If you wanted the kids to understand you, you should have said rear naked choke.
The Iron Sheik's Camel Clutch vs Sgt. Slaughter's Cobra Clutch.
Discuss.
The Camel Clutch - it's not even close.

Speaking of old school submission holds, the Abdominal Stretch never looked very effective/intimitading to me.
Just to point out--this actually upholds your jock cred, not your nerd cred.
I was letting that pass riiiiiight until this post.
"If you wanted the kids to understand you, you should have said rear naked choke."
Or, if you were shooting for real pro-wrasslin nerd credit, called it the Katahajime.
Which now that I think about it, just increases my desire to see Obama cut an old skool wrasslin promo on McCain....
Coates,
I thought maybe you were referring to this

...you guys think that's nerd cred too?
Got to be generational. In my rather-recently-departed high school, the guys who watched wrestling were the sports-oriented guys prone to shouting random things at random times and snickering through biology.
Best submission moves?
What about
Rick Flair: Figure 4 Leg Lock
Kerry Von Erich: The Claw
Jake the snake: DDT
Lex Lugar: Torture rack
various: Old School Sleeper
And a shout out to my hometown of Memphis. From the category of "Most Awesome Wrassler You Never Heard Of" I present the original Road Warrior Lord Humungous

sgwhiteinfla, how can you leave out the Crippler Crossface?
Just 'cause a guy goes insane and kills his family is no reason to dissappear an awesome submission hold....
Supertroy,
I liked Benoit as a wrassler but I honestly didnt think the Crippler Cross face was all that awesome. But I respect other opinions. I was about to put the Great Kabuki spitting out the green mist on the list but then I thought it didnt qualify as a submission move. Still awesome though
You guys didn't catch the World of Warcraft reference?
sgwhiteinfla, I don't think the DDT counts as a submission move. It was a fantastic finisher, but it wasn't a submission hold.
The Figure of 4 is the king of all rasslin' submissions.
dwhite is right - DDT is a finisher, Jake's submission was the classic Sleeper Hold followed by a meeting with Damien.
PLEASE post some of the comments you received from people who didn't get the Cobra Clutch reference. No names, no attribution, but let the words see the light of day where they can be held up and ridiculed.
I cheered as the Sarge slapped the clutch on that fool Bob Backlund at the Garden (the REAL one) way back in the day. He should have won the belt, but the damn ref got distracted, and...well, nevermind, it was a long time ago.

Both of yous guys are fighting the straw man. I said finishing move not finishing hold. The green mist from the Great Kabuki did not always end the match. It usually allowed him to do something else dirty to end the match though. Nice try though lol
Keith,
You are made one win. All win dude.
I'm waiting for the thread on misspelling in video games.
After finally finishing P.O.W on NES, the final screen says "Congragerations!"
who was the guy who would take out a python and drop it on his opponents- was that Jake The Snake Roberts?
Wow. That brought back memories. I am actually old enough to remember when Sgt. Slaughter was a BAD guy. Then in a rush of Reagan patriotism his image changed. I actually met Andre the Giant and, when I was 11 saw the Sgt., Quick Draw Rick McGraw and the Moondogs in action.
BTW-Surprised no one mentioned Adrian Adonis' Good Night Irene. same move.
