The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood
Finally, a chance to ask the question that's been bugging me since I first saw an NFL post from you: Why the Cows? You grew up in Baltimore and now live in New York, so what's the connection? I understand the not having a home town team for most if not all of your childhood, but the Cows? You're obviously more than a fair-weather fan of theirs, so I just have to wonder why.
As a full disclosure, I live in the Dallas area, have always had a love/hate relationship with the Cows (lifelong Dolphins fan thanks to dear old Dad, sadly) which right now is more hate than not because they're taking attention away from other Dallas-area teams that I do like. And blah.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say my Raiders will lose to the Jets today in the AFL Championship.
Go Steelers! Of course, it doesn't hurt that we're playing the Bengals, too.
Houston 66-10 Detroit. As a Lions fan, there's no sense in hoping for the team to improve, so I've got to root for the team to plumb new depths.
Go Steelers indeed. 5-1 will be a nice start as the schedule starts to get really tough.
Fantasy: I'm really glad Colston is back. My WR corps were hurtin.
Best part of the this week's games: Getting to see the Pats get the beat down on national TV.
Damn Cowboys. Losing to the Rams. Good Lord.
a fucking barn-burner at soldier field so far.
just praying the bears can hold on. my boys should be 5-1 right now. they deserve a break.
whatever you do TNC do not, I repeat, do not watch the Cowboy game...
Best summed up by another poster on my favorite Rams board:
"Who was that team and what have they done with the Rams?"
1) I don't feel quite so bad about the Redskins' loss to the Rams, now that the Cowboys have lost to them too.
2) Could the Redskins' offense kindly show up? The defense is doing great, despite being minus Shawn Springs, their #1 corner. The offense is only missing Ladell Betts, their backup RB, which shouldn't be a big deal, but their offense is basically a no-show today.
If this keeps up, will anyone pay $1000 to sit in a $1B stadium to watch this team? Just askin', is all.
Packer D comes out of halftime, takes an INT back to the house, knocks down two Manning throws, and blocks the field goal attempt they force. The two deflected balls and the block come on three consecutive plays. Now that is a defense I can believe in!
Big, heavy Packer TE Hall leaping over Indy secondary; Packers up 27-7 and with the ball after third!
Packers dominating Colts 34-7 under 4 min remaining; still knocking down passes.
I think I wrote in here 2 weeks ago about icing the kicker. Dumb. The NFL needs to do away with that.
Freakin' Jets. Can't take anything away from Janikowski, but that game should have been ours.
RAIDERS!!!
God! It feels like forever since I got to say that. At least their win will shut up Peter King for a week.
How could the Jets not beat a hapless bunch of chumps like the Raiders? Mangini needs to put a boot in Favre's ass, and QUICK. This should've been a cakewalk.
my bears hung on to win that game, which is excellent. still, they need to do something about that pass defense.
and i watched the bengals today. they really are a terrible squad.
Sorry about earlier, TNC. Told you my Rams were back. I wasn't serious when I said it, but maybe we can compete in the NFC West. Chris Long and Donnie Avery looked good.
TNC, we get no post about the Rams victory?
When I checked in tonite, I thought for sure I'd see a post. Instead I get a short comment on the NFL thread?
Look, that Rams sqaud has a long road to go. But I said if they win the majority of their first seven it's a cake-walk the rest of the way. They'll only walk out w/ three but they're looking good the rest of the way. The Tigers suck so St. Louis, MO needs these Rams.
Rays! Rays! Rays!
Is David Price the future?
I don't want to say "I told you so," but I have to say, "I told you so."
Back in '71, the Cowboys started out 3-2 and then started to roll, straight through the Super Bowl against the Dolphins. Even at 3-2, you could sense that their record didn't represent the true team.
This year, not so much.
The Cowboys just do not have it, especially on defense. And I'm afraid it's going to snowball. That's the catch when you've thrown some problem children into the mix. When it's going good, they might be able to rein themselves in. When it starts to go bad, they don't respond well.
Again, I hope I'm wrong. But I fear not. (And made all the worse with the Red Sox going down the tubes.)
Cheers,
