I saw the word "Lott" and thought Trent Lott had submitted himself to Rose a la Frost/Nixon. I'm from Detroit, and went to U-M, so fuck football. It pains me to watch.
Wolverine fan, man I feel your pain. Imagine being a UCLA fan with a QB avergin 4 INT a game.
Dang, I thought I was still reading Sullivan's blog and wondered how I'd missed the Ronnie Lott admiring side of him all this time... That will take a while to get over.

The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood
Nobody in their right mind--or outside their mind, for that matter--would dare suggest Ronnie Lott is anything but one of the greatest football players we have ever witnessed in our lifetime.
It is just one testament to the character of the man that he raised such a son as Ryan Neese, LB with Detroit Lions, an Tampa Bay, via UCLA Bruins. Ryan was also a gifted athlete, and a really good kid, to boot. Ryan never asked for special treatment being a star player's son, wanted to strive for success with his own name on his own terms, and dad was committed to allowing that to happen. That a HOF player can also put aside ego and paternal deference to his own alma mater speaks volumes for Ronnie Lott.
He has also done an astounding amount of community service, particularly to children in economically distressed areas of LA. I had the good fortune to meet him years ago when he was basking in the glory of his prime years, and he was as kind and affable as he is as a retiree.
