Go for it folks. Blog returns to full strength tomorrow.

UPDATE:
This is why we don't regularly do open threads. Probably a worse idea to do one during the holidays when most of the adults are away. I'm never shocked by trolls. I'm always shocked by the people who take the bait. We have to do better. Comments closed and the ban-stick is in motion.

Watching TB vs Oak

Fighting Words

Hey, I have a question. Last week a reporter asked the Detroit Lions' coach, Rod Marinelli, if he wished his daughter married a better defensive coordinator (his son-in-law is Joe Barry, the current Detroit Lions defensive coordinator).

Is it wrong to think that's funny?

Its wrong to ask the question and Marinelli should have stomped his ass out because of it.

But it is kinda funny that he did ask it.

Damn Raiders just scored. Not looking good for the home team.

There is no NFL game in Buffalo today, yet the Bills are still playing.

Fighting Words

Well, if you live in Oakland (well, Berkeley), your home team is the Raiders.

Besides, your stupid Bucs just scored and tied the game up.

1) Cowboys will win.

2) Jets will choke...Go Dolphins!

3) Lions will get their first win today.

4)Ravens will win.

Dallas @ Philly
Denver @ Chargers

all other games are secondary...

"Jets will choke."
No, there will be no choking, but it will come down to Favre's heretofore unmentioned shoulder injury, and how he feels tossing the rock. If he can throw with accuracy look out Dolphins. If not, Jets defense and poor coaching decisions will not getthem a dance invite.
Now, Lions @Green Bay--that is SUPREME choking of a historical magnitude...

Viqueens just squeezed past the Giants. Wow. The fact that they made to the playoffs is shocking.

Matthew Struhar

Forget the Lions never winning a game, the Browns have gone 8 games without a TD. 4-12 after going 10-6 with essentially the same personnel. Losing both QBs in the second half of this offensive abomination of a season. All of this after that amazing Monday night game against the Giants.

TNC, what level of Fail are we talking about here?

Gruden shouldn't make it to the locker room before he is fired.

if you had to read the tea leaves right this second (at the end of the early games), you'd have to say an all-manning super bowl is probably your most reasonable bet, although far from a sure-shot.

Fighting Words

SG,

Man, as much as I wanted the Raiders to win that game, your Buccaneers looked like they didn't even want to be out on the field. The playoffs on the line and they get owned by the Raiders...in Tampa.

Looks like the Lions are going to get their record this year.

Fail of the day....the satellite channel that broadcasts the games where i live...will NOT be broadcasting the Dallas-Philly game...instead, i will enjoy old-man favre heave-hoeing his pathetic jets right into the AFC playoffs. Wow, what a dumb-ass move...because favre has more followers than the dallas franchise...

I wouldn't say they all played like that but enough of them played like it didn't matter that in the end it really DIDN'T matter. I hate that Cadillac got hurt again though. It might be career ending.

And so the Lions go down in history. And I do mean down. What do they do now? They have so many problems it's hard to know where to start.

On the other hand, gotta feel good for Atlanta. From it-couldn't-get-much-worse to the playoffs in a year.

Brady James...that HAS to be the sack of the year....long time i've seen someone frogleaping a qb

Jay

This is what I would say they should do

Top Priority has to be an interior lineman preferrably a veteran. They can't play a 4-3 with their weak ass inside players

Then they need to draft a mobile QB because their O Line will be like swiss cheese for years to come.

Third they need a new D Coordinator. Now that goes without saying if Marinelli gets fired but if by some miracle he doesn't he has to get rid of his son in law.

Fourth they need a new special teams coach also. I don't think they blocked a kick nor returned a kick this whole year for a touchdown. Thats where bad teams can at least rise up to mediocre with hidden yardage. How bad would the Bears have sucked the year they went to the SuperBowl without Hester?

Doing those things would at least be a good start.

MoeLarryAndJesus

1. The Cowboys have no balls and no brains. It's a bad combination.

2. Damn, the Dolphins suck. It will be a real shame if they make the playoffs and the Patriots don't.

things are not looking good for dallas going into the half...

And things aren't looking too good for the Jets, either. Ugh. Favre doesn't have many (any?) more second-half comebacks left in that arm, I think.

Dolphins have the same record as the Pats and beat the brakes off of them earlier in he season. If they go its because they earned it. Period.

things are now looking abysmal for dallas going into the half. nice penalties jones and newman, well done indeed.

@MoeLarryAndJesus

oh they have balls all right...they have so much balls they think that the refs will agree with them, even on the dumbest most inane things they do. that last touchdown was pacman and newmans fault. Oh great...they just lost the ball...this is getting ridiculous....anyone who thinks Wade Phillips should be fired because of his playcalling is borderline moronic in my book...he should be fired because, apparently no body on that team gives a flying fuck about actually winning football games...seriously...your gonna box out the reciever like its a fucking rebound in a b-ball game??

I have officially changed my mind. Wade Phillips gotta go!

sg, great advice for Lions. Sadly, WCF "doesn't see the need to make any major changes." My guess is they will use their first draft pick on a WR from a no-name Division 3 school that has drug problems.

Great way for Philly to end the half!

(go Dolphins :)

MoeLarryAndJesus

sgwhite replies: "Dolphins have the same record as the Pats and beat the brakes off of them earlier in he season. If they go its because they earned it. Period."

The Patriots are 1-1 versus the Dolphins this season. The Patriots have managed an 11-5 record despite more injuries than I can count. They're a better team than the Dolphins by far.

But yes, the Dolphins have earned their record. That's football. They still really suck. Are you watching this game?

The Jets suck, too, but I hope they win this one game.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Jets take the lead as the Dolphins play their famous Ole! defense. Maybe justice will be served!

Two point conversion is good!

I can't believe I'm rooting for the fucking Jets. What a lame franchise.

And the Eagles just scored on a Romo fumble. 34-3, Philadelphia. I'm with sgwhite ... Phillips needs to go, and there are a few players who need to follow him out the door.

I think Romo may be the head coach now...he called off the punt team on 4 and 1 and they went off the field, ignoring Phillips. What a mess that place is and Philly is about to score another defensive TD. WOW!

MoeLarryAndJesus

When the Eagles-Cowboy game is over McNabb should seek out TO on the field and give him the game ball and laugh in his face.

This is one SPECTACULAR FAIL

MoeLarryAnd Jesus, and sg, please don't jinx us. Am I paranoid? Yes, rightly so considering the teams I root for. Oh, another Dallas fumble without a touchdown return. Our defense gets to rest.

Nice Dolphins TD

Wow, I was going to go easy on TNC, but ...

WOOT!!!!

Brian Dawkins pwnz the 'Boys!

This is embarrassing...the only thing worse than this is that tomorrow, Jerry Jones is going to huff and puff, talk shit about the wrong players and scare off every decent coach and assistant he can find...because right now, jarrett is THE LAST person they need as coach. His offensive schemes has been reduced to shit this whole season, and he's come up nothing to try to prevent that or even improve it. That's EMBARRASSING for a coach in the making. This cant be detected on a fail scale.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Jerry Jones is going to need TWO facelifts after this season.

If this were the NCAA basketball tournament, right about now the studio host would be cutting in to say, "Folks, we're going to switch you to a more competitive game." Ouch!!

Bruce

Ask yourself a question. What has Garrett ever done in his past to even get the OC job for Dallas a couple of years ago? But now he is the head coach in waiting.

It is what it is.

"jerry jones is going to need TWO facelifts after this season"

MoeLarryand Jesus FTW!

LOL...come to think of it, i think i asked myself that very question when he got the job in the first place...dont know why i didnt follow up on that one...probably because the offense was "good" last year...but as i stated before...its not even the offense that needs the real tweaking...its the personel and the attitude of the team. Its scary that this is such a young team with alot of good potential...and its just getting wasted...D-ware has been a beast this year...brady james has had his best year yet. ratliff came out like an animal...3 count em, 3 running backs that can take care of business...a half decent reciever core...and they still play like its a pickup game in the back yard?! Its scary, i know that Jerry jones has given alot of players alot of shit...but he has cut a lot of players ALOT of slack...which begs the question, how good is this guy in assessing a man/womans character? He gives a player like barber shit, and cuts guys like pacman and T.O. slack? And he's the owner??! Leadership starts at the top...

pretty shocked by the Eagles.

Happy, but shocked.

Well, the only thing that is good about this dreadful Cowboy season, is that it is obvious that this thing needs to be gutted. Not break down to the foundation and start over gutted from a player standpoint, but there should not be a single coach remaining on this team come next year. And any player that refused to get it, wether in the locker room or on the field needs to go. As much as I have defended the guy, that means T.O. among others. Pac-Man, Tank, I would love to see them get rid of Flozell, but his contract makes that impossible. They need a safety, so that means Roy Williams the safety needs to go, and hopefully a coach can come in here and light a fire. Maybe a Cowher, or someone of that ilk...

There is no way Jerry doesn't see this...I hope...

Troy Aikman was just saying that all the moves made to improve the Cowboys are going for naught, including "all those signing bonuses." There's a clue. Jerry Jones needs to learn from the model of teams like the Patriots and Red Sox that have had success by signing the RIGHT players, not the most expensive players.

keith

Until this year I have been a Flozell fan. I don't know what the hell happened to him but i would be willing to give him another year to get back to form

As for the other jokers get rid of the lot of them.

Who are the Cowboys leaders? I would say Bradie James is one but he is the only one I could possibly name and that aint good. Its not just good enough to have a lot of talent on a team. You also need guys who can inspire their teammates when the going gets tough to pick their game up. I never see that with the Cowboys. When they come off the field they all go to their little corners without much interaction. And that goes for offensive AND defensive players.

Thats what I mean about chemistry. Its not about hugging each other and singing kumbuyah. Its about getting along enough that everyone fits together as a unit and not just a bunch of individuals. You look back at the 90s Cowboys and they didn't all love each other. But they were all went to war together and we don't have that anymore at all. Now we have a bunch of finger pointing punks who only give a shit about themselves.

Im thoroughly disgusted.

Jay

Aikman can blow it out his ass because I didn't see him complaining when Jerry went out and paid for Deion Sanders. It ain't about paying guys because some players deserve to be paid. Leonard Davis earns his keep in my opinion. Its about WHICH guys he pays. Thats where he has screwed up some.

Hate on the Dolphins if you want to (I know I normally do), but there's no way to say that they haven't earned this playoff appearance. Congrats to them.

Now this is funny. From cbssports.com's live scoreboard, note on the Jets-Dolphins game:

"Wildcard formation."

Hmm, you think someone in their web programming department is a little distracted?

I would say that Ken Hamlin is one player he overpaid...im not used to the whole idea of capspace...so i get extra testy when they sign players for absurd amounts of money...and hamlin is definetly a misstake. I saw someone talking about a Cowher i Dallas?? not gonna happen, the Cowhers, the Belichicks know now (and then) to stay the eff away from Dallas...I think jerry should just cut out the middle man and coach the team himself...that way, i can actually laugh without the tears when he rips himself a new one in third person for loosing games....

MoeLarryAndJesus

dannity writes: "Hate on the Dolphins if you want to (I know I normally do), but there's no way to say that they haven't earned this playoff appearance."

Unless you happened to notice how Brett fucking Favre gave them two of the most pathetic interceptions I've ever seen. Yeesh.

Congrats to Pennington, who has always been a class act. But the Dolphins will be one and done in the playoffs.

Fucking Brett Favre. Thanks for nothing. King of the game killing INT

Bruce

I don't know about that, Hamlin was a straight up BALLER for Seattle. Last year he started all 15 and I believe he led the team in ints. You look at the year he had before he came to the Cowboys and his stats were bananas. Damn near 100 tackles two sacks and three ints. The dude earned that contract when he was with Seattle and even last year. Jerry overpaid Romo. Thats who the hell he overpaid. Might want to wait for the guy to actually WIN something next time.

I'm really enjoying this epic beatdown of "America's Team." And by the Iggles, no less! Punks and poseurs, the Cowboys are perennial underachievers.

SG-

I agree, as frustrating as Flo is, he is better than most and probably the best option there is out there. Another year with him will not be horrible.

The whole leadership angle is a little more complicated. The thing about those 90's Cowboy's is that they were young(much like the D this year) and they were molded to fit their coach's mentality who taught them how to win big games and play as a team despite what off the field distractions may occur. I think Jerry tried that same aproach by bringing in Parcells, the problem with that experiment was that Parcells was already an established coach, with skins on the wall who was not as hungry for the fight that an eager and ambitious Jimmy Johnson was. Than by bringing Wade, that simply reveresed everything that Jerry was trying to accomplish. All that we(as a Cowboys fans) can hope is that the core of this team is still relatively young, and can respond to a coach who is not afraid to lead, and demands the kind of respect needed to teach this team how to win.

I still think Romo can lead this thing, I was encouraged to see him over-rule Wade on that 4th down call earlier in this game. That one instance showed the failed dynamic that ulimately doomed this thing. Wade just looked weak and helpless...not a thing you want from your head coach. I think guys like Barber, Witten, Ware,Ratliff and Newman can be the kind of core to a strong team that can win something, it would help these guys if there was a coach on this team that could help those guys lead, and keep the team together. They with the help of a good coaching staff can still salvage this thing.

"Congrats to Pennington, who has always been a class act. But the Dolphins will be one and done in the playoffs."

I don't know. There's no real top this year in the NFL. Outside of Arizona, every playoff team in either conference can beat any other playoff team out there. It's going to be wild to see this thing actually play itself out.

I'm hoping that now that Miami is locked into the 3rd seed, they somehow find a way to win long enough to face my Steelers in Heinz, and then we can give Joey Porter a proper thank-you and goodbye.

And then start winning some rings for other miscellaneous body parts.

MoeLarryAndJesus

dannity writes: "I'm hoping that now that Miami is locked into the 3rd seed, they somehow find a way to win long enough to face my Steelers in Heinz, and then we can give Joey Porter a proper thank-you and goodbye."

I would like to have seen a Pats rematch against the Steelers. You guys must have collectively thrown up in your mouths today when Roethlisberger went down, but good luck to you.

Just gonna interject here: go Chargers! w00t! Please dear god, I really can't stand the Broncos...sorry any Denver fans out there!

I feel good for Pennington. That's some sweet revenge. Now we get to enjoy (?) the annual will-he-or-won't-he-retire-for-real-this-time drama with Bret Favre.

Well...i could say the same about hamlin...romo did have a great season last year didn't he? And his debut, was nothing short of spectacular. Romo needs time, and stability...the contract...yeah probably overpaid him...but then again, 90 % of the qbs in the league are overpaid. Its a hyped up position. I was actually happy when they signed leonard davis for that amount. Zona's a ridiculuously lousy team...even this year. Hamlin...well, i dont know...a safety should rack up tackles...and he's probably going to get a couple of ints as well, if he gets his hands together...my problem with hamlin, is that he's not a coverage player...and dallas suck...in coverage situations....the only thing getting them through those situations is the front 7...which should be kept at all cost...and that is the main reason i was not keen on the deal in the first place...dallas already has a gifted tackler at safety...they needed someone who could play the positioning game better than Roy Williams, which is pretty damn easy. and Roy Williams got more ints than hamlin that year i think. The safeties that are GREAT in this league arent the necessarily the ones with huge int totals or huge tackling-stats (although the stats confirm that)...they're the ones who play the positioning game better than any one else....and from there the stats follow....

Turns out that Sporano was a guy that could have helped this team out this year.

Thats the kind of guy that the Cowboys need on this staff...oh wait....

Bruce

Only difference is Hamlin did it over several years. Last year was Romo's first full year starting. Thas a major difference to me. Besides the fact that I never saw Hamlin have a terrible game this year. Not to say he didn't but I didn't see it. Romo on the other hand....

On a happier note Singletary and his 49ers beat the Deadskins and he ends up with a winning record as interim head coach which is a rarity. They have already announced he will be offered a multi year deal next week.

yes...question still remains...what do u do about the safety-problem...u have 2 maybe 3 strong tacklers on that position...and no one who excels at playing coverage...it needs to be adressed...and romo...well, he's not the worst qb to get that amount of money...he still has alot to prove though...

SG-

You never saw Ken Hamlin have a bad game...uh...last week against the Ravens, those last two runs went right through the arms of Ken Hamlin on the way to the endzone.

I'm SOOOOOO happy for Mike Singletary, who was nothing but disrespected, IMO, by the Chicago Bears. Since he was a player, I've never seen anything written nor anything said that spoke ill of him. I really think he's one of the ' good guys'.

Pretty good day if you are an Eagles fan!
Oakland and Houston win the early games...Dallas gets beat like a red-headed step-child. Nice!

keith

True but he missed a tackle and got stiff armed to death but I thought on the hole he played a descent game. Bradie James got his ass flipped on one of those runs and I still thought he played decent. To me if Hamlin hadn't played well up until that point then they would have been getting blown out. That doesn't excuse him missing those tackles but I am just saying I go by the whole game. And you know how I feel about the blitz call on those two plays anyway.

Didn't Hamlin make the pro bowl last year?

Favre throws three interceptions in the most important game of the season. Who didn't see that coming?

Ditto Mike Singletary = one of the good guys. I am very happy he got the contract extension.

However, I am hearing Marinelli is only going due to it would be bad PR if he stayed? WTF? There has to be a way for Detroit to fire William Clay Ford!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW-Yay Iggles!

MoeLarryAndJesus

"Favre throws three interceptions in the most important game of the season."

He's football's Mr. October.

And did you guys see the news that Tom Brady may end up missing the 2009 season too?

SG-

Well, half the team made the pro bowl last year, alot of good that did them this year. Look, I have no problem with Hamlin, but he along with the rest of the defense broke down on those two plays after playing well right up to that point. Ken Hamlin is not the problem with the safety postion. Dallas was playing their third string safety at SS, and the two above him(K.Davis) aren't that great. The SS positon is the glaring sore spot on that D, Hamlin is basically on an island. They need a guy to help him out, and plays well against the run. The only problem is, is that guy out there?

Favre throws three interceptions in the most important game of the season. Who didn't see that coming?

If he retires this year his third to last throw will be a game killing INT, the second to last throw a short pass and his last throw an illegal forward pass. Where's the Brett Favre Fan Club now?

Jerry Jones is going to need TWO facelifts after this season.

Yes, but he'll be sitting on one of them, so to speak.

I don't friggin care if the Fish beat the Ravens next week or not. All I know if that I have endured Wannstadt, Saban and a fucking 1-15 season and now the Fish are AFC champs and Belichick is sucking air. I am being small and petty but I don't care. I have playoff tix for next week and even if the Fish lose, I will finish this season a happy fish fan.

And Sparano deserves coach of the year. Period.

And did you guys see the news that Tom Brady may end up missing the 2009 season too?

Considering the way Cassel's come forward (compare him, for example, to the spectacular flame out of Favre), it's not the catastrophe that someone would have thought it'd be. If the Pats play in the first weeks of the next season like they did at the end of this one, they'll be a lock, without crossing their fingers and hoping they win and the right teams lose.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Mo says: "Belichick is sucking air. I am being small and petty but I don't care. I have playoff tix for next week and even if the Fish lose, I will finish this season a happy fish fan."

Belichick had his best coaching year ever. There isn't a single Patriots fan I know who was disappointed in the team this year.

Enjoy it while it lasts. It won't last long, and the Patriots will be back on top where they belong next year - and the Dolphins will be lucky to finish above .500.

Paul Gilmartin

Keith,
Making the pro-bowl is a joke, particularly if you're an offensive lineman since most get selected on name recognition and previous years play, not the current season.

SG,
I owe you an apology from last week. I was being pig-headed about the cowboys run-blitz call against the blackbirds but you were right, it was a bad call. Yet another reason why the coaching staff needs to be dumped along with their old stadium!

Miami TOTALLY deserve their play-off position and an 11-5 team missing the play-offs would be terribly sad if it wasn't the patriots and bill bellyache, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

MoeLarryAndJesus

An illiterate guffaws: "Miami TOTALLY deserve their play-off position and an 11-5 team missing the play-offs would be terribly sad if it wasn't the patriots and bill bellyache, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!"

What sort of moron spells playoffs with a hyphen and does so twice?

Ah, but then looking at the fool's website I see he lives in Oklahoma (America's fascist sewer) and he's an Angels and Cubs fan. Poor guy can't seem to make a single decent choice in life. I'll just leave him with my pity.

Paul Gilmartin

Thanks for checking out my website dumbass, glad to see you believe everything you read on-line (oops, another hyphen, should that be in there?).

As for making comments about Oklahoma, well let's just say that linking where someone lives to their states reputatation just shows what an imbecile YOU are. Then again, I already had a hint of that when I noted that you're a patriots fan (probably been on the bandwagon for about 6 years!).

You can keep your pity along with your skewed vision of the future (damn, another hyphen, well ya know us okies!!!), have a nice off-season mofo, it started a couple of hours ago!! HAHAHA

Moe

What are you like 5 years old or something? You were talking shit earlier about the Dolphins now when somebody comes back at you about the Patriots you personally attack them? Wow. I swear man this online thing is way to real for some folks.

MoeLarryandJesus, you very occasionally say something semi-intelligent in the politics section, but you obviously don't get the NFL. The Patsies are beginning their long decline back to provincial and well-deserved obscurity. No doubt you'll find a reason to whine about this, but the rest of us will greatly enjoy seeing them back where they belong - with the Bengals and the Lions.

Leftwich has looked great this season. The Steelers can do it whether Ben is healthy or not.

Paul G

Its all good. Hell I apologize too because after I thought about it the truth is whether it was a good call or not if it had worked and we had won you wouldn't have heard a peep of disention from me. By the way check out he first half run pass distribution for the Cowboys vs for the Eagles. You know how the Eagles usually pass way too much? Well for some reason it must be catching because the Cowboys hardly even ran the ball in the first half. The one drive when they actually committed to the run was the only drive they actually scored (FG). Thats two weeks in a row where they didn't commit to the run and the defenses were able to tee off on Romo. Jason Garrett should turn his "coaching guru" card in after his performance this season

MoeLarryAndJesus

knockknock has a wooden head: "MoeLarryandJesus, you very occasionally say something semi-intelligent in the politics section, but you obviously don't get the NFL. The Patsies are beginning their long decline back to provincial and well-deserved obscurity. No doubt you'll find a reason to whine about this, but the rest of us will greatly enjoy seeing them back where they belong - with the Bengals and the Lions."

That won't happen as long as the Krafts own the team and Belichick is there, chuckles. Meanwhile Parcells may be about to dump the Dolphins already.

Stability and intelligent management mean a lot in the NFL. Some teams are set up for long term success (Patriots, Steelers, Giants, Colts, Eagles) and some are not (just about everyone else). Sorry, but that's just the way it is. I'd say you're the one who doesn't get the NFL.

I am done with football for the night (by order of my hubby). I am watching the last Prime Suspect episode. I highly recommend it.

Good Night all and to all a good playoff!

MoeLarryAndJesus

sgwhite whines: "What are you like 5 years old or something? You were talking shit earlier about the Dolphins now when somebody comes back at you about the Patriots you personally attack them? Wow. I swear man this online thing is way to real for some folks."

Who died and named you blog Commissioner? You take this stuff and yourself way too seriously. Go make a snow angel in your freezer.

There is a special on HBO called "Breaking the Huddle" about the integration of black players onto college teams in the south. I highly recommend the documentary to everyone. They especially focus on Bear Bryant.

The Chargers are a scary team right now. i don't think anybody really wants to play them in the playoffs either.

Castillo intercepts in the third. LT Scores next play. Donkeys are done. Both LT and Sproles are in rare form tonight.

Longterm success? The Patriots? And how long is it since they were a joke team, known for being a pushover? Think about it, LMJ, and then try a new line. Sure, the Patriots have had a reasonable run of late, but there's no reason to think that they will ever be a major force again. They aren't a team that illustrates the long-term, unless you think that a goodish 6 or so years is long-term, in which case, you bear a sad resemblance to GWB. Still, I suspect you've had many years of frustration as a Patriots fan, and now you can look forward to many more. I shall enjoy your whining as the Patsies slowly disintegrate.

Moe, you can moan as much as you like, but the fact is, the Patriots are done and dusted. No playoffs this year, and likely no Brady next year. Don't bet the house on seeing them win the Superbowl any time soon.

@sgwhiteinfla: "The Chargers are a scary team right now. i don't think anybody really wants to play them in the playoffs either."

Word... bring on those effing Dolts!

There's nothing like a band-waggoner bragging about how HIS team is going to come back and pound the rest of the league next year. (Damn, there's another hyphen, what's up with that?)

Mo, get a grip and try to back up your smack with some logic. It's awfully dull watching you copy and paste other people's entries with a nice little snark from you right after it. As TNC might say, WEAK SAUCE dude.

the puzzled one

Una palabra para tí: FILADELFIA!

BlueDog

Be careful what you wish for, Peyton Manning is en fuego right now. But I will say that the fact that they will have to travel to the west coast might have an effect on the Colts. So will the size of the Chargers recievers. The key to the game might come down to the TEs for both team. Gates if he is healthy will give the Colts fits but i also don't see anybody for the Chargers being able to check Dallas Clark. Either way if there was a team that I think matches up well with the Chargers I would say its the Colts. If fate shines on them and they get past the Colts they may breeze into the Superbowl.

Well sg, I'm gonna stick with the *Bolts* over the Colts/Dolts! I hope Peyton gets Montezuma's revenge while eating some tacos and enchiladas! LOL

OMG, the network was just playing "Another one bites the dust!" haha

The Broncos couldn't have just beaten the Bills last week? FFS.

Thats what you call an old fashioned ass whuppin

BlueDog I noticed that "another one bites the dust" music too. A little salt in the wound by NBC.

This was one of the most important final weeks of football in the NFL in my recent memory. Its crazy how many teams totally didn't show up with the playoffs on the line.

Given the blown call in week 2, the chargers are deserving victors tonight.

As for next week, I imagine the Ravens will beat the Dolphins. No disrespect to Miami and I would like to see them win but the Baltimore D is too strong and they have some weapons on offense. The Chargers-Colts game is a toss-up, should be a classic! I think Indy takes a close one in OT.

As for the NFC, I pick the Eagles to beat the Vikes and Atlanta to beat Arizona, I know I know, I'm not really going out on a limb but it's how I see it.

w00t Chargers--kudos to whoever cued up the old-school disco track "San Diego Super Chargers" song! Gotta keep hope alive for Saturday! My 10 year old sure is looking forward to his new throwback LT jersey that his grampa in SD is sending!

Well if we are making snap predictions

Give me Miami at home over Baltimore. I think the Ravens D will show up plenty but I also think Flacco is due to come back down to earth. I don't think the Dolphins will turn the ball over and that will be the key to the game

I think the Colts are going to win a shootout. I don't think either D will do a good job of stopping either offense but I think that the Colts will score faster and more often. X factor is Sproles on special teams.

I think the Vikings will beat the Eagles at home. Their D Line will harrass the shit out of Donavan and Andy Reid will revert back to his pass happy self.

I actually think Arizona will beat the Falcons at home. They totally limped into the playoffs but I think that Warner is going to light up the scoreboard. Again I think the playoffs will get to the rookie QB Matt Ryan just like Flacco and he will turn the ball over.

Chad Pennington--Call him Ishmael!

MoeLarryAndJesus

knockknock again: "Longterm success? The Patriots? And how long is it since they were a joke team, known for being a pushover? Think about it, LMJ, and then try a new line. Sure, the Patriots have had a reasonable run of late, but there's no reason to think that they will ever be a major force again. They aren't a team that illustrates the long-term, unless you think that a goodish 6 or so years is long-term, in which case, you bear a sad resemblance to GWB."

Dear Stupid:

I realize you Bengals/Lions/Whatever fans are very frustrated and that frustration tends to lead to illiteracy, but I was quite clear. I said that as long as the Krafts and Belichick are leading the Patriots they'll be successful. I believe that to be true. They may have a dip or two along the way, but they will be consistent contenders.

If you paid attention to the other teams I listed that the same sort of thing could be said about perhaps you'll learn something. Until then, be content in whatever NFL backwater you inhabit.

The Patriots will be favored to win the AFC East next year by the vast majority of pundits, and there's a reason for that. They're the only team in the division that has the combination of talent, stability, and intelligent management I was talking about. Of course it's possible Belichick will resign, or Bob Kraft will get Jerry Jones/Al Davis Disease, or both Brady and Cassel will die, but don't hold your breath.

Come on sg, no Charger love after they took the Broncs to the woodshed??? lol Saturday's game will be a tough one, just as they should be in the playoffs but I am HOPEful that the Bolts have the same outcome as what happened on November 4th...

MoeLarryAndJesus

It's hard to see the Chargers beating the Colts in Indy. Norv Turner against Tony Dungy isn't much of a contest. Poor Norv will probably have to change his Depends during every commercial break.

The Ravens will slaughter the Dolphins. Ricky Williams will be doing bonghits at halftime.

The NFC games don't interest me. None of the four teams involved will be in the conference final. Just for laughs let's say the Falcons and Eagles advance.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Oops, forgot the Colts/Bolts would be in San Diego. Disgraceful. But I'll stick with the prediction.

Mo is right, if you don't live in an NFL town you don't know dick about the NFL.

Yeah right, spoken like a typical band-waggoner.

A TRUE pats fan would be ranting about how it's BS that they finished 11-5 and didn't make the play-offs. Instead, Mo chooses to worship at the altar of kraft and bellyache and talk about how they're gonna dominate next season. And you said KnockKnock was clueless??????

Poor LMJ the best you can do is cheap remarks about Ricky Williams? And since you ask, my team is in the playoffs, which is more than yours managed. And you ducked the question about the Patsies - how long have they been taken seriously? About 6 years out of their total existence, which is hardly long-term, is it, kid? And since you ask, I do live in a bit of an NFL backwater - Boston, to be precise. Not really a serious NFL town, to be sure. Now, why don't you try making an argument based on logic and facts? Or would that be too stressful?

It's an interesting fact that since Belichick was caught cheating and barred from taping other teams, his record has been on the slide. Patriots 9-7 next season, at best. They might do a touch better than the Bills, but that's their limit in the AFC in future.

Knockknock, I already asked mo if he had any logic behind his smack but it's all hot-air (damn, ANOTHER hyphen!!!), a bit like bill o-reilly!

Congrats on your team making the play-offs and good luck, unless they're playing the Steelers of course!

Paul Gilmartin, I don't think reasonable folk need to get all up tight over a little thing like a hyphen. And the good wishes are appreciated. Good luck with the Steelers, unless you play us of course! Come to think of it, Bill-O, Larry-Moe.. there's a strange similarity. Coincidence? I think not!

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion writes: "It's an interesting fact that since Belichick was caught cheating and barred from taping other teams, his record has been on the slide."

Really? 18-1 last year, 11-5 this year...

That's some "slide."

LarryMoe, it's up to you, of course, but don't you think that being on the wrong end of some serious ass-kicking makes this a good time to quit? If you prefer to sit on a backside that's been reduced to jelly, obviously it's your call....

18-1, 11-5,.. what next? 4-12? Isn't that the logic behind the progression you outline, LMJ? Quite a slide there! Cheer up, Little Bill might manage to hold it to 8-8, if you get lucky.

Yup, a decline of 7 games in a season. That's a slide, LMJ, and quite a big one. I am glad you agree with me.

MoeLarryAndJesus

I love how the usual morons are confusing Moe and Mo - we're two different posters, you idiots. It shouldn't be that hard to distinguish us if you just learn your vowels.

I live in Massachusetts and have been going to Patriots games for 3 decades. Not exactly a wagon-jumper here. But I guess someone who left a lovely place like Ireland and ended up in a fascist state like Oklahoma has mental illness issues to deal with and all of his opinions are suspect.

Stick with soccer, Gilmartin. It's more your speed.

Out of interest Moe, are you a Detroit native? Or did you just move there to support your team?

"But I guess someone who left a lovely place like Ireland and ended up in a fascist state like Oklahoma has mental illness issues to deal with and all of his opinions are suspect."

(MoeLarryandJesus)

You know, Moe, even Michelle Malkin would find what you've just said embarrassing. Doesn't that tell you something?

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion again: "Yup, a decline of 7 games in a season. That's a slide, LMJ, and quite a big one. I am glad you agree with me."

I'm glad you're not very intelligent. It makes your version of analysis easier to laugh at.

When the Patriots ring up another successful season next year and the Dolphins go 8-8 you'll see.

Au contraire, Moe, I am not the poor fool who wasted 30 years on the Patsies. Must have been all those years watching pathetic failure that turned your poor mind to toxic waste. Still, let's just remember this one happy fact: the Patriots didn't make the playoffs, and none of your whining can change that fact. Enjoy your winter, loser boy!

MoeLarryAndJesus

morzer quotes and replies: ""But I guess someone who left a lovely place like Ireland and ended up in a fascist state like Oklahoma has mental illness issues to deal with and all of his opinions are suspect."

(MoeLarryandJesus)

You know, Moe, even Michelle Malkin would find what you've just said embarrassing. Doesn't that tell you something?"

Why, no. It just me wonder what sort of tapeworm purports to speak for Michelle Malkin.

Oklahoma is a fascist sewer. It's not like I'm making that up. Why on Earth would any sane person move there?

Does Gilmartin work in the prison industry? Or does he specialize in pig manure management? Why would he move to such a place?

Inquiring minds want to know.

"It just me wonder what sort of tapeworm purports to speak for Michelle Malkin."

Presumably the same sad little turd who can't handle the fact that his team weren't good enough and so makes up nasty remarks about better and more intelligent people. Even the Patriots would be embarrassed to have you as a fan, and that's a achievement.

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion replies: "I am not the poor fool who wasted 30 years on the Patsies. Must have been all those years watching pathetic failure that turned your poor mind to toxic waste. Still, let's just remember this one happy fact: the Patriots didn't make the playoffs, and none of your whining can change that fact. Enjoy your winter, loser boy!"

I will. I'm as proud of this Patriots team as I am of any of the Super Bowl winning teams.

And it's not like I have any shortage of good teams up here to watch in the interim.

Boston is the unchallenged center of the sports world in this decade and the rest of you are just choking on our righteous fumes.

It's good to be the KING!

MoeLarryAndJesus

morzer again: "Presumably the same sad little turd who can't handle the fact that his team weren't good enough and so makes up nasty remarks about better and more intelligent people."

I can handle it easily, chuckles. By the way, you mean "wasn't good enough." Since you're so concerned about intelligence and all.

I made up nothing. It's all true. And Bill Belichick is worth 10 of you.

And your mom, too.

"Boston is the unchallenged center of the sports world in this decade"

Except in tennis, soccer, golf, cricket, hockey, ice hockey, baseball, rugby, NFL, NBA... and in fact any sport you care to mention! But please do rant on, LMJ. It's really amusing to watch your mental disintegration as you face the fact that the Patsies are toast!

I suspect more people are choking with laughter as Moe fumes than because of Boston's rather limited range of achievements. Still, it does no harm to poke the creature and watch it roar. Come on, LMJ, can't you do better than those old insults about mothers? Or is that the limit of your satirical powers?

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion again:

""Boston is the unchallenged center of the sports world in this decade"

Except in tennis, soccer, golf, cricket, hockey, ice hockey, baseball, rugby, NFL, NBA... and in fact any sport you care to mention! "

I was referring to actual sports. In the case of the NFL, the Patriots have undoubtedly been the best this decade. Do you even follow the NFL?

The Red Sox have won two World Series in this decade. Who has been better?

And the Celtics are the reigning NBA champs and are well-primed to make another run.

I like how you broke "hockey" and "ice hockey" apart. Very funny. Field hockey must really impress you.

I stand by my assessment. No other fan base has better reason to be proud of its teams this decade than the Boston-centered one does. Any rational observer can see that.

But good luck with your rugby season, dude!

Paul Gilmartin

SG was right, this mo dude is wound awfully tight and seems to be taking things just a bit too seriously. As McFly said in BTTF "hey, lighten up, jerk!"

Since you corrected me on calling you mo and not moe, you obviously knew I was referring to your inane posts.

As I said earlier, if my team (that I had supported for 3 decades) had just finished the season 11-5, I would not be gloating about what we're gonna do next year (that would come later), I would be YELLING(!) about how absurd the play-off system is when an 8-8 team gets in while my 11-5 team doesn't.

As for the whole, Oklahoma is a fascist backwater meme, you really do show your true colours when you spew that bile. But just to humor you, here is a synopsis: I emigrated from Ireland to pursue my fortune here in America. Although I wouldn't necessarily have picked Oklahoma as my base, I was lucky enough to get a green-card in the visa lottery and the company I worked for was headquartered in Tulsa. I wanted to come to the states so I was thrilled. Am I disappointed that Oklahoma has backwater representatives in congress, that would be Yes. Am I ashamed that every single county in the state voted for mccain, that would be a Yes.

Now for the money question: If the place you live in has a poor reputation/image, has MUCH improving to do, has a decided majority of voters opposed to you, etc. etc. etc., do you
A) leave
B) stay and try to make the place a little better

Although mo would obviously choose A, a choice he is no doubt entitled to, I choose B. I choose to TRY and make Oklahoma a better place because all of the name-calling and bitching and moaning about the fascist sewer states (?) in our country will not, EVER, fix a damn thing.

oh, just to avoid any accusations of thread-jacking, I was heartened to see LT have a great game for the Chargers tonight. Hope he's fit enough to play next week!

MoeLarryAndJesus

I stand humbled - morzer happens to be the nephew of the World Tiddlywinks champion.

In the face of such awesomeness I should just step aside. I am not worthy.

There is nothing more gratifying than a whiny Pats fan. Thanks ML&J.

You see, Moe, the difference is that I don't depend on the Patsies for my identity as a human being. To the extent that you qualify for membership in the homo sapiens club, I fear you lose major points for bad taste and worse judgment. Before the last 6 years, did the Patsies ever have a winning season? And how many series have the Sox won in the last 50 years? The Yankees laugh at them, and we both know it. Just face the facts: the Patsies are toast and no amount of special pleading or whining can change that.

Paul Gilmartin

When TNC said "Go for it folks", I guess we took him at his word!!!

MoeLarryAndJesus

Gilmartin replies: "As I said earlier, if my team (that I had supported for 3 decades) had just finished the season 11-5, I would not be gloating about what we're gonna do next year (that would come later), I would be YELLING(!) about how absurd the play-off system is when an 8-8 team gets in while my 11-5 team doesn't."

But that's because you have poor character and I don't. The Patriots lost out fair and square according to league rules and I have no problem with that. As I said, I'm proud of the season they had.

I feel sorry for your relative lack of honor.

"I emigrated from Ireland to pursue my fortune here in America. Well if that's your perspective perhaps you shouldn't have bailed on Ireland. But I guess it managed to become a better place after you left, while Oklahoma has just gotten worse.

Perhaps you're some sort of human virus.

When did you leave Ireland, by the way? I think you have problems with judgment and timing if you left after 1980 or so...

Hey Paul, good to see you back, although I am not sure you will have much luck educating LMJ. For him the Enlightenment was something that happened to other people. Still, it's kind of you to try and raise our own little Bill O's consciousness a tad. I suspect the Steelers are going to go all the way this year, although that's just a guess. Either way, good luck!

Paul, it's fun poking the Boston Troll, but I wouldn't waste too much time trying to have a dialog with it. The sad little beast doesn't understand civilized ways, and never will. Just ignore it, or mock it.

michaeljenkins

I have to warn everyone that Moe's been banned from an abundance of blogs for flagrant trollery, so you waste time on him/her at your own risk.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Another m boy writes: "Paul, it's fun poking the Boston Troll, but I wouldn't waste too much time trying to have a dialog with it. "

And so the debasement of the language continues.

Those of us with more thorough educations prefer the non-dumbass spelling "dialogue." But I suppose you spent the time saved by omitting those two letters by finding a cure for cancer, so thank you.

Paul Gilmartin

Cheers Morzer! Steelers are looking strong even if Leftwich is qb. The titans stomping on the terrible towel last week will come back to haunt them!!!

As for mo, you just have to laugh when someone you don't even know says you lack honor, have poor character and must be a human virus. What a tool!

Proof that mo is a band-wagon fan: The pats finish 11-5 and don't make the play-offs, the Chargers finish 8-8 and make the play-offs and mo says "The Patriots lost out fair and square according to league rules and I have no problem with that." Dimwit!

I particularly enjoyed the linking of Irelands fortunes to my residency and subsequent departure, damn I leave a trail, don't I?

Paul Gilmartin

Thanks for the advice maraschion and michaeljenkins. I'm beginning to see that mo has no ears, just a very big mouth.

"more thorough educations", you learn that at Harvard or Yale mo?

Moe,Larry and Jesus, those who can't even manage a comma in their own ridiculous names are in no position to quibble about spelling. Basic punctuation, boy, basic punctuation!

MoeLarryAndJesus

Gilmartin again: "Proof that mo is a band-wagon fan: The pats finish 11-5 and don't make the play-offs, the Chargers finish 8-8 and make the play-offs and mo says "The Patriots lost out fair and square according to league rules and I have no problem with that." Dimwit!

I particularly enjoyed the linking of Irelands fortunes to my residency and subsequent departure, damn I leave a trail, don't I?"

Yes, a trail of slim, like a slug.

Almost no one here in Massachusetts is whining about the "unfairness" of the Pats missing the playoffs due to the division system, but I suppose that's because few of us are clueless, petty whiners. The few who do bring up such nonsense are being treated as if they were humongous pussies. It's what they deserve.

I don't think Moe really gets the idea of sportsmanship too well, Paul. And ignore the nonsense about fascism that he spouts - he just likes to use bad words that he doesn't really understand. He's a bit like Jonah Goldberg, but without the charm. As for Ireland, well, "Erin go bragh", say I, though without Irish roots of my own. Attacking someone's homeland is just cheap and nasty - but that's Moe the Troll for you.

I thought it was pretty classless to mock the Terrible Towel - and I would guess that fate has some retribution in store for the perpetrators. Glad to see that Big Ben is not too badly damaged btw.

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion again: "Moe,Larry and Jesus, those who can't even manage a comma in their own ridiculous names are in no position to quibble about spelling. Basic punctuation, boy, basic punctuation!"

Commas would ruin the look. And most boards don't allow commas in usernames, chuckles.

Your own name reminds me of misspelled bogus cocktail fruit. No doubt it has some deeper and more fascinating meaning, unlike your posts.

MoeLarryAndJesus

morzer again: "As for Ireland, well, "Erin go bragh", say I, though without Irish roots of my own. Attacking someone's homeland is just cheap and nasty - but that's Moe the Troll for you."

I didn't attack Ireland at all, you hopeless idiot. But that's you for you.

Whatever roots you have, the fruit is rotten.

Slow, Laggy and Jizzus, are you trying to talk about people's names? What happened to the other four dwarfs? Commas would ruin the look? How can you ruin a disaster? And while we are on getting your English somewhat closer to correct, you need to put "chuckles" in parentheses. Or don't you know what a vocative is?

MoeLarryAndJesus

Another bit of silliness: "I thought it was pretty classless to mock the Terrible Towel - and I would guess that fate has some retribution in store for the perpetrators."

Who actually believes in such nonsense at this point in human history? Other than fools like Sarah Palin, that is.

MoeLarryAndJesus

araschion again: "And while we are on getting your English somewhat closer to correct, you need to put "chuckles" in parentheses. Or don't you know what a vocative is?"

I can call you "chuckles" without using parentheses, chuckles. Or don't you know what a term of endearment is?

But "while we are on getting your English somewhat closer to correct" makes you sound like a hick on acid. Are you a hick? Are you on acid?

Maraschion, good luck getting Slow and Laggy to understand words like "vocative". The sad little creature probably thinks it's a type of exotic fruit!

Slow and Laggy, I don't feel any need for terms of endearment from you. I don't care to contemplate inter-species relationships - and all you have to offer is bestiality.

MoeLarryAndJesus

morzer again: "Maraschion, good luck getting Slow and Laggy to understand words like "vocative". "

Dear boy, try to remember to put the period inside of the quotation mark. Like so:

Maraschion, good luck getting Slow and Laggy to understand words like "vocative."

Got that?

When you guys talk about Belichick cheating, do you mean with the illegal taping of the Jets, or are you talking about his string of adulterous relationships?

MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion again: "Slow and Laggy, I don't feel any need for terms of endearment from you. I don't care to contemplate inter-species relationships - and all you have to offer is bestiality."

But not with you, chuckles. I'm allergic to pinworms.

Jacinth, I believe the reference was to the taping incident, although with Slick Billy it's true that there is room for uncertainty.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Heavens, yes, adultery and the NFL must never mix!

That would be unseemly!

Morzer, was it two affairs Belichick had, or more? I find it's hard to keep track of the old weasel's perverted conduct.

I believe the current count is still at two, although we shall probably learn that there were several more once Belichick finally slithers off to Buffalo, so to speak.

MoeLarryAndJesus

While we're on this sort of topic why did Perfect Tony Dungy's kid kill himself?

Why does Andy Reid raise drug addicts?

Why are religious NFL coaches automatically assumed to be "men of character"?

Come to that, didn't Brady dump a pregnant girlfriend? Not a classy bunch, those Patsies. Still, their day is done and we can all enjoy their fall. Just look at the sort of loser who defends them - yes you, Slow, Laggy and Jizzus, we are looking at you. A classless fan for a classless outfit. Say it again - the Patsies are toast!

Fighting Words

Paul Gilmartin,

I have a few Gaelic Football/Football (Soccer) questions for you. I am just curious because I am of Irish descent on my Mother's side.

1. How difficult is it to switch codes from Gaelic Football to Soccer if you want to play professionally?

2. In Ireland, which is more popular, Soccer or Gaelic Games (Gaelic Football and Hurling)?

3. What does the Irish national football team need to do to qualify for the World Cup and the European Championships? You have some good players (Damien Duff and Robbie Keane), but it seems they always come close to qualifying but never make it (well, they did qualify in 2002).

4. Will Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland ever combine in Soccer in the same way they do for Rugby?

Thanks.

hing, too, she MoeLarryAndJesus

maraschion again: "Come to that, didn't Brady dump a pregnant girlfriend? Not a classy bunch, those Patsies. Still, their day is done and we can all enjoy their fall."

He dumped her before they knew she was pregnant. Good thing, too, she's a bad actress.

So which sad sack franchise do you support, chuckles? You seem to be afraid to say. Your comments have "habitual loser" written all over them, though.

Maraschion, there is a real sweetness in knowing that the Patriots are in eclipse. It's only going to get worse for them, because they won't be able to keep Cassel and Brady and rebuild with by stealing players from other teams - they can't afford the salaries. Patriots for a 9-7 season at best next year, and no playoffs.

Morzer, it's too easy, isn't it, to get the troll to start spewing his hatred? Still, he's a Patsy, which means he's living down to his destiny. Have a good night. Patsies are toast! Repeat ad lib!

MoeLarryAndJesus

More excellent English from a master: "It's only going to get worse for them, because they won't be able to keep Cassel and Brady and rebuild with by stealing players from other teams - they can't afford the salaries."

The Patriots have two 2nd round picks this year. Let's see how they build on that. Meanwhile they'll have this year's Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Somehow I think they'll be just fine. Better than "rebuild with by," certainly.

Paul Gilmartin

Fighting Words, here goes:

1. Overall, I would say it's not too difficult to switch, although when playing soccer you'd have to stifle the desire to catch the ball in mid-air! A guy by the name of Kevin Moran played gaelic football for Dublin in the early 1980's and he then switched and went on to have a very good soccer career with Manchester United and the Irish national team.

2. Not sure on #2. I think soccer is more popular in urban areas. It has always had a strong support but after Ireland qualified for Euro88, it has grown stronger.

3. Right now, we're looking good for a play-off spot where the 10 2nd place teams from the European groups play-off for 5 world cup final spots. We've been in that situation before with mixed results.

4. I wish! We would have an awesome team were that to happen but both football associations seems too rigid to ever contemplate merging.

Good luck to ya and thanks for the questions!

MoeLarryAndJesus

Still waiting for maraschion to identify its favorite franchise...

Rest well, Maraschion. It was fun kicking the troll's ass with you. Time for me to hit the sack. Paul, good talking with you!

Paul Gilmartin

As I said earlier mo, all you've got is weak sauce, dude, weak sauce.

Your grammar and spelling leave a lot to be desired and yet you spend time criticizing others for theirs? It seems you and sarah palin have something in common, you're both hypocrites.

MoeLarryAndJesus

morzer runs: "Rest well, Maraschion. It was fun kicking the troll's ass with you. Time for me to hit the sack. Paul, good talking with you!"

It's sad to see the Phelps Family morality spreading. But so it goes.

Paul Gilmartin

Cheers morzer, this time I really am going to bed!
Good night all.

MoeLarryAndJesus

Paul Gilmartin, the Great and Heroic Emigrant who always wants to make his Home State better, says:

"Your grammar and spelling leave a lot to be desired and yet you spend time criticizing others for theirs? It seems you and sarah palin have something in common, you're both hypocrites."

You're welcome to point out my misspellings if there were any, chuckles. Unlike you, I take honest criticism very well. So let's have it.

Or just have another hot toddy and roll off to bed. It's a better place for you. It will prevent you from using multiple punctuation marks like some demented 12 year old girl, too.

Fighting Words

Paul,

Thanks for your answers. I really appreciate it.

I'm going to ignore the pettiness of the last half of the posts and focus on my team.

Rams 8-8 next year. Maybe a new coach, maybe not. But the new management bodes well: Devaney, with his background in scouting, should bring in better personnel. His first draft with the Rams was a success.

On another note, Steven Jackson needs more attention than he gets. He's the most complete back in the league. Sometimes he is mouthy, but he's a leader. He is big, strong, fast, agile. He just completed his 4th 1000-yard season. If only he had a team around him and a stable coaching structure. I've never been a fan of Bulger, but he's good enough (probably in the top half of NFL quaterbacks). He just needs some help.

Jesus Christ, that was like watching a bunch of six-year-olds. "You stink!" "You stink more!"

Thanks for being a grown-up, Will. I think people often underestimate the importance of the team. Yeah, the qb's the point position, but in the end your performance is only as good as the people around you.

Thanks, Will. And now back to the NFL. Mangini is OUT, according to several reports. Woody Johnson's holding a presser at 10 a.m. without Eric. Think they're going to try to move fast on Cowher ... ? How does this affect Favre? Discuss.

NFL news is hopping this a.m.

- Marinelli out (duh)
- Mort talking about Parcells leaving Miami and heading to Detroit
- Phil Savage fired as Browns GM

How does this affect Favre?

He was still done four (4) years ago.

Favre will announce his retirement, only to come back two months before the season starts and claim he was forced out.....

Favre is gone but he will use a mystery arm ailment as his reason.

I don't think Cowher wants the Jets job but I could be wrong.

I think Parcells will stay in Miami. He wants to retire in Florida. The problem is the impending sale of the team. He actually is still under contract until the sale goes through but in his contract he had it written in that he was only employed by Huzienga which makes him a free agent when ownership is transferred. Unless the new owners are complete ass clowns expect him to stay

I would love for Vikings DC Leslie Frazier to get a shot at a head coaching vacancy but the fact that the Vikings made it into the playoffs might actually hurt his chances

Expect at least one team, maybe the Lions to make a run at Florida's head coach Urban Meyer. Now that teams have shown that you can be creative and use the zone option play ala the Wildcat Formation I think he will be a hot commodity. I am not sure he will be willing to leave for less than a perfect situation though.
