Rush On Michael Steele: He's Alright, But He's Not Real...

03 Mar 2009 09:00 am

I've been pretty hard on Michael Steele for his abuse of Ebonics. But I think his most recent sonning courtesy of Rush Limbaugh needs to be put in perspective:

"My intent was not to go after Rush - I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh," Mr. Steele told The Politico. "I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership."
I'm not offended that Steele is kow-towing to Rush. I'm offended that Steele would wrap himself in the garb on hip-hop, and then apologize to Rush.

Man listen: The first rule for establishing "Off The Hook Urban-Suburban Hip-Hop Strategies" is if you gonna dis a mofo, then dis him. Don't come out the box quoting "How You Like Me Now," and then go and apologizes to the guy who you just dissed.

Could you imagine Moe Dee apologizing to LL? Kris apologizing to Shan? Shante apologizing to the Real Roxanne? Hillary Duff apologizing Lindsay Lohan?

Come on man. You ain't no wiling-out-for-the-night-fist-thrower:

Mr. Steele called Mr. Limbaugh after the radio host belittled Mr. Steele on his show, questioning his authority and saying the new Republican leader was off "to a shaky start."

"It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off," Mr. Limbaugh said, in a transcript of his remarks he posted on his Web site.

"Mr. Steele: You are head of the R.N.C.," Mr. Limbaugh said. "You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the R.N.C. and right now they want nothing to do with it."
Shorter Rush Limbaugh--"Don't make me have to call your name out\Your crew is featherweight\My talk-show will make you levitate..."

UPDATE: We'll re-open later. It's tough being popular. I like being the geek so much more.

Exactly. If you're going to start a war of words -- bring it! Steele's behavior would get him branded as a punk in my old neighborhood and a beating would surely follow.

Rush is the leader of the GOP. The republican party has degenerated into a hate group and he is a more effective leader of that hate group than anybody else.

It's always a little embarassing to see one grown man completely bow down and surrender his manhood to another.....

Ugly...

Yup! When MC Steele said the GOP was going with a PR plan that was "off the hook" and "beyond cutting edge", I didn't imagine it meant publically fluffing Rush Limpballs.
That will sure bring in lots of new voters.

Bobby Carter

I can beleive people still care about ANYTHING Rush has to say.

I thought having a brother in the White House would eliminate the need to shuck and/or jive.

Guess not.

Wow Steele is taking a beating on the blogs. I just think this is an excuse to get him to resign, I don't think he wouldve ever survived in the long run. The GOP isn't ready to enlarge the tent the way they need to. I'm an Independent but I wanted Steele to be original, to be strong, to "be hip-hop" so to speak. He should've never apologized to Rush. Rush is incendiary and what he says is ugly and even racist and sexist at times. The RNC convention was not a reflection of America. There was nothing but acknowledgment of what needs to change about the GOP image.

I called this in to Hot 97 already, so I'm repeating myself, but I'm not surprised Steele backed down from the feud with Rush. I mean, nobody cares about Rush, he's just a washed up fatman, but he has a crew, and when you've got nothing behind you, you don't want Cape Girardeau Rollin' AM1090s on you. That's a beef you can't carry. But that doesn't mean Steele doesn't look like a PUNK...

The Republican Party is the mainstream party of conservatism. Rush understands that. Steele does not. The can be no such thing as a moderate republican if the party is to stage a comeback. The right wing, the conservative wing, Rush's wing, is the most important faction of the party right now. Moderates like like Steele, and McCain are the reason the GOP lost. The people had no clear choice, just a liberal on the left, vs a liberal on the right. Might as well vote for the 'real' liberal, the one on the left, right? Next time the GOP will have a conservative candidate.

Deleted.

This whole thing is so hilarious, I can hardly stand it. I believe the score now stands at --
Bloviating gasbag: 2
Elected officials: 0
The Democratic Party: ten bazillion

Limbaugh is one of the best examples of why birth control is important. His brand is a disease. Unfortunately the constitution allows this misfit to mobilize the Neanderthals out there at a time when the country needs sanity and clear thinking more that ever. Getting behind Limbaugh is an act of suicide for the GOP.

MissClarity

Dust to dust. And who cares?

The Democratic Party: ten bazillion

LMAO - nothing more to the point has been said on this page ... however ...

... it's more like 3.5 Trillion ...

Rush Limbaugh is a gasbag and a certified, card-carrying buffoon. He has mastered the art of telling it like it isn't.

And the circuluar firing squad continues. This may be the most impressive rope-a-dope yet. Limbaugh's vanity is such that he won't be able to avoid the trap. Pass me the popcorn...

Rush Limbaugh is a brilliant mind...anyone who thinks otherwise has been brainwashed by all of the other idiots from the left.

alaabma jim

So now Rush has his own step and fetch it ... That is so cute.

"Alright" is not all right. "Alright" is not a word. All right?

Coates,

Who is linking this post? I notice several "agitators" in the comments and I don't like it.

Rush and his supporters are the problem. They believe they're ideologically pure yet they're extremists. Conservatism in America today is nothing but a collection of religious right loons with a very liberal interest in people's privacy and neo-cons. Real conservatives with broad appeal are Christy Whitman and Rudy Giuliani. The GOP needs an exorcism, or perhaps an enema, and part of that process is to refer to the conservatism of Adams, Goldwater and Eisenhower to relearn what conservatism in America is and ought to be about. My hope is Rush's tirade at CPAC is not the re-energizing of conservatism but rather the last gasp of a vile perversion of conservatism in its death throes.

Rush is the new leader of the RNC in fact if not in name. He has planted or flag now let's rally around him. I wish he would run for office.

No, idea. But I'm cleaning house.

I'm calling him Suge Limbaugh from now on. He had the whole Suge Knight raiding Johnny Cash's closet thing going on.

Hit the dictionary before you hit that post button, please. Alright?

Scene from the green room after taping the show with D.L. Hughley:

Michael Steele: A bit of advice...

D.L. Hughley: Oh, uh, thank you...

Steele: Always...no, no...never...forget to check your references.

Hughley: Uh...ok...thank you. I'd better be going. [leaves]

Steele to an aide: I think the young people enjoy it when I "get down" verbally, don't you?

I see the CG Rollin' AM1090s are "in da house." They may not exactly be "street," but they're very "cul de sac."

Michael Steele, we don't believe you - you need more people.

The worst part about it all is that Rush is right - his posse is large. Steele could've shown some real swag by taking him on, but you can't fold like that and still think people will take you seriously.

Rush is not the leader of the Republican Party, but is the voice of Conservatives. It has been a long time since the Republican Party stood for Conservatives. With the stimulus plan is the first time I have seen any Republican stand for the Conservatives.

I don't think Chariman Steele is kowtowing to anyone. He clarified his remarks... but as a conservative, I can't support the GOP/RNC with Mr. Steele's type/lack of leadership. He didn't need to disparage a leading conservative voice in order to make his views known. Of courses, lots of folks are enjoying seeing the GOP fall apart...

Like watching two fat kids fight over the last bag of dorritos.

"The Democratic Party: ten bazillion"

Good point, that is likely going to be the national debt caused by them. (Jokes aside, it'll probably be closer to 8 trillion by 2012.)

All Rush has done is speak of the power of the individual, yet this seems to be considered hate speech. Whatever happened to having pride in your work, and in a job well done? I like Michael Steele, but he needs to realize that he is only the leader of the RNC, he'll need to prove himself through his words and actions as an effective leader of Republicans as a whole, not by attacking one of their most well respected allies.

Jeff,

alright

Main Entry:
al·right Listen to the pronunciation of alright
Pronunciation:
\(ˌ)ȯl-ˈrīt, ˈȯl-ˌ\
Function:
adverb or adjective
Date:
1887

: all right
usage The one-word spelling alright appeared some 75 years after all right itself had reappeared from a 400-year-long absence. Since the early 20th century some critics have insisted alright is wrong, but it has its defenders and its users. It is less frequent than all right but remains in common use especially in journalistic and business publications. It is quite common in fictional dialogue, and is used occasionally in other writing .

It always amazes me that people really don't understand that the racist ways of Rush is going quickly, or has been diminished greatly with a few exceptions like Rush and his supporters. If these racist that hide behind the conservative label think that there's going be a turnaround of the direction America is going in terms of politic, you will have a misery the rest of your life. The demo has changed, period! Blacks, Hispanic, Mixed Races(growing unbelievable fast) and many young open minded whites will control this country a lot sooner than 30 years.

So, get over it. You lost!

Jeff Kirkpatrick: All right already!

Dude, are you for real? That's all the Repulsicans have done for the last 40 years! And Rush Windbag Limpdick is the 1st in line to do it....wake up man. Your party is NOT for liberty and freedom. Just look at the memos released yesterday from the Bush Admin DOJ. They were under the "impression" they could use our military ON US SOIL! Unconstitutional! And search and seizure went out the window....Not to mention the VP and his whole secrecy and no-bid contracts...Where have you been? Mars?

Rush a brillant mind? How about a narcissus who is leading the base further in exile. With the economy spiraling out of control, forclosures, you know the drill..why would anyone that is sane want the government to fail??? YES..if you want Obama to fail..you want your government to fail.
Period. So keep up your spattering Rush..as the GOP's pied piper!

As someone who's open to hearing good conservative ideas, if Rush is your voice... you just lost one.

And probably several more million like me.

Rush I've noticed that you were quite animated at CPAC and on your show and wondering whether you're back to popping those pills. Better lighten up bro, you never know who maybe watching! You beat the rap the last time and may not be so lucky this time.
