All I can say is oh my dayum. What the heck does race have to do with buying furniture (at the Raaaayeeed Hooouwse? lol.

Thanks for the episode of Backwoods TV.

Is that a real commercial?

Just a reminder that everyone has their own Building 19.

BabylonSista (Replying to: Joel)

Yes, it's real; I found the video on Chicagoist, and they have a snippet from an interview with the commercial's creators:

Yup! Proving that cheap budgets and bad decorating style knows no racial barriers.

This isn't nearly on the scale of Byron York's piece, and it might only qualify as insensitive or stupid, but Timothy Egan said that "the Republican Party has shrunk to a raisin of its former self, baking in the sun of the old Confederacy." How's that for inappropriate appropriation of a metaphor?

Jason Whitlock just appointed himself the Racial Apology Czar. Thought this was worth a comment but it's only tangentially related to anything so in it goes into the open thread stew.

I'd consider watching that show. It would probably be funnier than about 80% of what's currently on tv.

The Pop View

Can you say something about this CNN clip?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbw1UluwVhg

Several white liberal bloggers have called this racist. It may be poor journalism, but they seem to miss the point that T.J. Holmes is saying, "This is what African Americans might say among themselves." That seems like a slightly different issue.

For your ongoing conversation with Andrew about supposed black homophobia:

The NYT poll has basically the same numbers of blacks and whites supporting marriage. Fewer blacks favoring no legal recognition at all.
