Not that it should come as any real surprise, but I noticed Drudge has chosen to reduce Iran to three links in the bottom right column on his page.

I am seriously concerned that I have become a TNC blog addict -- I can NOT stay away from this blog. My job performance is suffering -- instead of working, I am often on this blog reading. My personal relationships are suffering -- I would rather read the commentary here than talk to most of my friends and family. Yesterday, while on the bus, I was so engrossed with reading the updates on the blog that I missed my stop.

Is there a support group for an addiction such as mine? Should I just stop cold-turkey for a few days to re-connect with my other interests -- work, hobbies, friends, family? If I do, I fear that I might suffer sever withdrawal symptoms. If I don't, I risk losing myself here completely -- losing my job (then how will I keep grits in the pots?), my social life, and, possibly, my connection to the outside world.

What should I do?

Hooked on the awesomesauce. damn.

Well, you could say something really offensive and get banned.

The blog and comments section is a daily education, for sure. My intellectual curiosity has sky-rocketed on subjects I didn't even know I was interested in.

LCrawfty (Replying to: Storm)

Invite everyone you like to start reading it and commenting and then all of your conversations can be centered around the blog and comments you made on it and commenters you don't like.

And now for more stunning ignorance and flippancy:

What's the non-apology going to be for THIS one?

hey everyone, so a question for the group. I started a blog about a year ago on Wordpress mostly on politics. Clearly, the election kept me motivated to write. After it, as just about everyone in the media did, I lost some interest. Not a lot to write about, and I had trouble keeping to just politics. I also accepted a full-time job, which cut down on what I could do.

Anyway, I sorta have the itch again, so I'm thinking about starting a new one. One of the other major reasons I stopped was because I found Wordpress restricting; I couldn't just go on and post any video I wanted, the layout was a little weird and changed a lot, etc. So I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions on a good blogging site, especially in terms of video embeds.

Hm, I generally hear good things about Wordpress. Oh well. If you're willing to spend a lot of time customizing, creating a Drupal site might be the way to go. You can pretty much control everything in Drupal, which is a big plus and a big minus.

jenawesome (Replying to: Dan W)

i don't think there is anywhere on the internet easier to embed video in than tumblr.

Anyone think B. Marshall to the Ravens? They backed off of Boldin, but I feel like a stud #1 would put them up there with New England and Pittsburgh.

dwhite10701 (Replying to: Josh)

That would be great for Marshall, and even better for the Ravens, so as a Steelers fan, I'm firmly against the move.

Dan W (Replying to: Josh)

As a Ravens fan, I just don't know. He has tremendous upside, and would be probably the most physically talented receiver we've ever had. But there's a lot of downside too, not consistent and checkered past. We best proceed with caution. Also, he better be tough enough to go over the middle, I didn't see enough of him last year to make that judgment.

Ta-Nehisi, I have to admit that I had never heard of you before you started blogging here, but it has been an absolute pleasure becoming a TNC junkie. These last two days have been exceptional in both the blogging and commenting. I thank you for that, for the posts and for keeping comments open.... this is one helluva group of people.

Wanted to say thanks for the Robert Hayden Reference yesterday. I can't believe I missed him. He's on the list to pick up. I was wondering if anyone had any other recomendations in a simillar vein?

The great thing about this blog is it constantly opens up new pathways and new things to read. I'm half tempted to quit my job and read but then I couldn't support my book habit.

Also Professor Blight's lectures are awesome. He seems like he would be a hell of a guy to sit down and have a cup of coffee with.

Does anyone here read TheRoot.com? They have a great headline writer, and I'll click all the links there because they sound interesting, but I'm almost always disappointed with the actual writing. Does anyone else have opinions on that site?

Dan W (Replying to: dwhite10701)

Former reader. At the beginning, their content was excellent, but it went downhill after they lost Lacewell-Harris.

Persia (Replying to: Dan W)

Lacewell-Harris is amazing. I love seeing her on Maddow.

Dan W (Replying to: Persia)

yeah, I used to love the back and forth between her and Marc Lamont Hill (and to some extent, Jimi Izrael), but I think Izrael pissed her off one too many times or something. But yeah, glad to see her getting a higher profile

Jamilah (Replying to: dwhite10701)

Yeah--it used to be really good. Dayo who is there Washington Correspondent turns out some good things every once in a while but it has really gone downhill.

It's a shame and given that it is owned by WaPo you would think they would put some real effort into it.

LCrawfty (Replying to: dwhite10701)

I used to read The Root but it often disappointed me too. Slate's whole mission of dividing itself into little Slate's with different angles is kind of problematic. If there is an important news story about African-American women should it be covered on the XX Factor or the Root? Or should it be on the Slate homepage? I like Racialicious because their goals and beliefs are very clearly defined. I really know who the editors are as people and the commentary is extremely thoughtful.

Greta Van Susteren says that she had the right to ask questions about Jeremiah Wright because she knows more poor black people than Obama.

Amazing.

CitizenE (Replying to: Jamilah)

One must remember Ms. Van S came onto the media scene reporting on the OJ trial.

LCrawfty (Replying to: Jamilah)

Do these people work for her or something?

Question (for TNC or anyone else who wants to offer an answer) - I've noticed you use the phrase "conscious community" on here before (for instance - "I came up in the "conscious" community"...) and I think I know what it means but I'm not 100% positive. If you wouldn't mind venturing a definition it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm not an expert by any means but I'm assuming he means the black conciousness movement. It has a long and interesting history someone please correct me if I'm wrong but it has significant roots from Marcus Garvey all through the Panthers.

Are we wasting money going back to the moon instead of all nations getting together and working to find another habitable planet?

Since we are into the late 80s can't forget this classic :P
