Heh. I'm partial to Schoolboy Crush. Is there a Black Man is God version?

Of course, I forgot If I Ever Lose This Heaven. Q knockoff well done, I think.

Oh - finally! A rap reference here I actually know about. Of course it was from more than 20 years ago.

And still just as fresh as when they packed it in the baggie.

Funny, after I listen to both of them together, I think something is wrong with my ITunes and wanna speed up the Isley Brothers. I like IB more for their slow jams. Thanks for the time warp to the AWB and their amazing style!

AWB was the shit. Those Scots and Brits didn't know they weren't supposed to be listening to that kind of music. Heatwave hadn't got the message either. We loved em.

I'm partial to the Isley Bros version and I never liked the AWB covers as much as their lovely wonderous originals. I can't listen to "A love of your own" without getting teary eyed. err... Wistful manly tears of nostalgia.

Yes I strongly suspect I was conceived to A Love Of Your Own given my mother's reaction when I first found that SOUL SEARCHING album while diggin in the crates...kind of weirds me out but of potential songs, Im happy with that one.

Hicks (Replying to: Juba)

Yeah, I'll testify on your mom's behalf. Not to give you creepy mom mind movies, but see, also, "Cloudy" and if you're feeling all aww sookie sookie now, "Cut The Cake." (It's the "lemme lick up the cream".)

AWB were a terrific band, but the singing wasn't great. In this clip the dude is singing at the top of his range and his voice is cracking. I'll take the Isleys.

As much as I loved the Beatles and love the Boss and the E Street, neither of which were even close to being average, the Isleys also owned "Twist and Shout," though my favorite of theirs is just plain old, "Shout."

zinjanthropus (Replying to: CitizenE)

I didn't know The Boss did a cover of "Twist and Shout". I remember hearing the Beatles "Twist and Shout" while watching umm... I believe it was "Ferris Bueller" My reaction was WTF?. I never listened to them that much and with the neither did any of my friends and this song was probably not the best way to start getting into them.

CitizenE (Replying to: zinjanthropus)

He did an incredible (but not as great as the Isleys) live performance that has been recorded somewhere the night after John Lennon was murdered in tribute to him.
